Trade for the Beast: CB Justin Gilbert

Well, the Colts are down to their 4th and 5th CB. Maybe they'll give the Browns another 1st for Gilbert.

If they are determined to make the playoffs, they can. Like you said, it's a weak division.

But I'm basing my assumption on this graphic:

OT: How do they figure that PHI and NE chances are relatively the same?

C'mon Chuiba if you use someone's published work, please link it - - that is someone else's work. Out of respect for Ian and all the hard work he does on this website for us, there are legal protection reasons for that rule.

Going back to the topic....

Strap and Brown seem to be the two best cover guys on the team. They are not elite cover guys but IMO are fine. Malcolm has upside and Brown knows what he is doing. If one of them goes down we are screwed.

That leaves Ryan and Fletcher. Both IMO are very questionable bordering on disastrous in man coverage.

With that said I am sick of hearing that "all we need is a slot CB that can cover in short spaces"... NO! The team needs another Cb that can cover in tight man all over the field period. How many times last night did Beckham start his routes from the slot? How many deep balls did SEA complete to WRs that lined up in the slot? Answer: A bunch.

I kinda want to see Justin Coleman play before the team starts making trades. As others have said, he can't possibly be worse than Fletcher.

Agreed on Coleman. I want to see what hes got before we start talking trades. Also I actually think Tarell Brown is a good slot CB. He can do the job.

It's not just a 4th round pick (or whatever is traded for him). Anybody who trades for Gilbert also takes on the roughly $4 million in remaining guaranteed salaries. That's not much if you get 2.5 good seasons out of him, but a huge waste if he lasts 10 games before being cut.

I didn't notice Brown play in the slot a whole bunch. I'll keep in eye on him. Brown can just cover. Outside, slot, etc. Hes competent. Fletcher doesn't have the makeup speed and Ryan absolutely sucks in his jams. He allows so much cushion that sometimes I have no idea he is in man or zone.

So the Falcons are least likely to make the playoffs than the Cowboys according to that chart or am I reading it backwards. That doesn't make any sense.
Consider the messenger...............

Sorry shmessy. My mistake

Maybe the Cowboys have a successful track record when playing at home? The percentage breakdown is based on 10,000 simulations, so I can see it being weighted to home field advantage

I really wanted them to trade for Mo Claiborne. He looks great so far this year and would only be a one year rental like Talib, but I think he could still be available and give us that one player that is missing.
Except Claiborne is a moron and the Pats have one of the most complex defensive schemes in the NFL. I really don't see him being a good fit.

Not a big fan of Gilbert's from what I know about him so far. I would rather trade for Claiborne or even Sean Smith of KC. That being said, I would like to see Justin Coleman and/or Dax Swanson play. One of them must be more serviceable than Bradley Fletcher. Logan Ryan is what he is but he is definitely served better playing the slot and playing zone.

No way to Gilbert. The guy has character issues and won't fit our lockerroom

Nearly the entire team is signed for next year & we don't have a first round pick as it is. We can afford to take a risk on a player with multiple years left on his contract. We will be getting comp. picks for Revis/Vince as well.

We are a solid third corner away from having a pretty good defense IMO. Gilbert was considered the top man corner in the draft for a reason. He's a worthy gamble for a later round pick. Anyone is to avoid Fletcher on the field.

Roberts going on IR really blows.

I have another one:

How about Captain Munnerlyn from Minnesota? Was really good for Carolina in 2013 but Minnesota has seemed to use him less and less.

Or another one:

Leon Hall from Cincy? He has been taken over a bit by Dennard and Kirkpatrick. Bengals have good CB depth. Good veteran who will know what he's doing out there.

Or if hypothetically Gilbert comes in for Cleveland and plays well enough to take over a guy maybe we could get a low price guy like Pierre Desir?

Would "Trade for the Bust" be a more fitting title here?
