I actually feel bad for the guy. The Pats have bent him over with no lube.

At some point, you have to pay the man. If you can reach terms agreeable for both sides, atleast trade him for what you can get. Mankins has more than paid his dues in the league. he deserves to get paid.

wish somebody would bend me over with no lube like that.

The question that which also worrys is he did not sign last year for 3.5 million [appx] and ended up with the lower tender and signed the 1.1 [appx] tender .
So after prorating this over the lost games he made maybe 600k.

does anyone think he will do the same ? he made 5% of his original tender money.also as the game checks start from from week1. He can show up on week 6 and try to get in shape and still collect his checks.so how up in week 6 ,try to get in the starting lineup by week8 and still get paid 6-7 million.

Since the franchise amount for guards isn't differentiated from tackles, he should sign it immediately. The average of the top five guard salaries is probably less than $7M. If he signs, that takes up $11M in cap room for the Patriots, which puts pressure on them to make a deal. If they don't, he pockets $11M in 2011 and hits the door in 2012 (or gets tagged again for $13M). He would actually be doing them a favor by not signing the franchise tender.

There is no cap pressure until free agency starts.

If there is no CBA until that late, I think it's very safe to say there will be plenty of "under the table" discussions.

That's kind of what I figured. It would be WAY too chaotic otherwise.
