I actually went to school with this kid and honestly I am happy for him. He was bullied a ton and to see him come out on top like this is good to see.

Did you really that's awesome. He's a millionaire now if he wasn't before. The guy I think was rated number 3 as far as the best Brady rookie card collection in the country.

I have Brady's best rookies. I always joke to my coworkers about calling Tom, Tommy. The guy did alot for me.

My father has a TB12 rookie that Beckett says is worth 10Gs. Anyone know where we could go to get more info?

He doesn't really want to sell but I think he should. He's got plenty of cool stuff that he displays the card sits in a safety deposit box.

Anyway he doesn't really want to sell but we would like to find out some info about it. What does a card market so say when a player retires or when he gets in HOF? Basically we want to research when the likely best time to sell would be and the best way to sell? If anyone has any trustworthy leads that would be cool.

Beckett is old school. You go to ebay to find out what the market value is. What is it anyways? Is it graded? You might want to try PWCC auctions or Heritage. I'd wait until he gets number 6 if you're looking to sell.

A little long and OT, so skip unless you're interested in the Collectibles Market.

The Collectibles Market is not for the faint of heart. For every guy like this, who buys low and smart and hits the market with a winner, there are dozens who have not done so well...but this guy sounds like he might be set for life if he really has the inventory of Brady memorabilia that he claims to have.

Looking back, it always looks easy. But, who knew in 2011 (when he apparently started buying Brady stuff) that Brady would go to four more SB's and pick up two more Lombardi's?

It's interesting that this was sold before Brady lost last Sunday. So, this guy isn't greedy. The Collectibles Market fluctuates wildly and auctions are a real crap shoot. He sold when 28--3 was on peoples' minds. He decided to take his profit and possibly forgo more money because he didn't know what would happen if Brady lost last week. My guess is he would have pulled the card from the market and waited before he tried to sell it again.

A friend has his own store where he sells a wide range of collectibles. The fluctuations in markets are nerve wracking. Verified autographs by all four Beatles on a scrap of paper are probably worth $10,000 today; the same signatures on a high quality photo will get nearly $20,000; on an original Album Cover in good condition (not on pieces of paper at the bottom)? $40,000+. John Lennon's autograph on a piece of paper? $5,000. On an original Album Cover in good condition? $15,000.

Unless he wins another SB, the market for Tom Brady memorabilia will probably never be hotter than it was after LI. It's not rational. Also, he doesn't sign a lot of stuff, so the value will probably always be there.

The Beatles, when they were together, signed relatively little. They became popular so quickly that they didn't have to send out hundreds of promotional photos.

Then, John's premature death made anything signed by the four of them on a quality medium become instantly collectible. Also, most "Beatles" autographs that you see online are either frauds or were signed by one of their assistants. And, they signed a lot of stuff after concerts that is low quality and sloppy. My friend is a recognized authenticator of Beatles' signatures and he said that most of what comes to him is fake.

The Gold Standard for authenticated signatures, which never go down in value? George Washington, Marilyn Monroe and Babe Ruth. Washington sigs are very rare (Lincoln actually wrote a lot of letters and signed a lot of dispatches during the Civil War, so his sig isn't as valuable...will still get over $10,000). Monroe signed very little. A lot of Babe Ruth autographs were for fans who lost them.

Brady's high end cards will only continue to go up. He's the best ever and in the same sentence as Mantle, Ruth, Jordan...You're right for every Brady there's 1000's of rookie cards that end up worthless. Needless to say the guy that the article is about was probably of the mindset that Brady was going to try and lengthen his career and took a gamble that he was going to win more superbowls and therefore become the GOAT. Gamble paid off.

I will never understand what value people give to sports trading cards.

It's a piece of cardboard with the athlete's picture on it.

To be honest my father probably used eBay when he found out what he had. I just remembered Beckett from when I was I kid.

I don't know exactly what it is some Brady rookie card. It is not graded I guess that would be a starting point.

It is funny. I saw that sellers name and I had known a kid named Ricky Probstein and when I checked him out, it is the same kid. Have not seem him since high school but good to see him doing well.

The crazy thing is, the bully of our middle school was a girl and her brother. He was two years held back and she was one.

"I will never understand the value people give to gold.

It's a piece of rock that is shiny."

oh that guy is an auctioneer. I bought from him before. The guy who I was referring to was the actual owner of the card that sold for $250,000. Still, they're both millionaires.

Yeah get it graded. It's tough to be a buyer of Brady rookies if the high end cards are not graded. Too many counterfeiters are creeping into the market now that Brady's rookies are at the Jordan level.

Paintings go for 10's of millions of dollars. Just the way it is.

I still have my Aaron Dopson card. Any offers?

That's the one that ought to be destined for the spokes of robertweathers' BMX

Again, OT, unless you are interested in a discussion of Collectibles.

As with any market, Brady's high end cards "will only continue to go up" if people pay higher prices for them. Whether or not that will occur is an unknowable that is out of our control (unless we are buyers in six figures markets and, therefore, play a role in "market making).

The only certainty about the Collectibles Market over time (except for the examples cited) is that it will fluctuate widely. Mantle's prices go up and down with economic cycles as well as with stories about him in the media. Jordan and Brady are TBD.

If I allocated part of an investment portfolio to Brady Collectibles, I'd do exactly what smart Beatles collectors have been doing for years: focus on rare and high quality items. In Brady's case: autographed Game Footballs, autographed Game-worn Jerseys, autographed Game-worn Helmets, Autographed high quality photos (i.e., not signed for a line of autograph hounds at a paid event). The most valuable autographs do not have an inscription. I'd probably look for autographed tickets to SB Games that Brady won where the provenance can be traced to the original holder. Since I doubt he signed many of them, I would imagine that a set of all eight of them in Very Fine condition could bring a ridiculous amount at an auction. And, BTW, I'd be very surprised if he would sign a ticket that someone put in front of him now (if you ever watch PGA Golfers giving out their autographs on the weekend, they usually only autograph things from kids).

I have no way of evaluating the value of an unsigned Brady Rookie Card in very fine condition. But, for now at least, it is worth what the buyer paid for it. If I were a Brady memorabilia collector, I'd be very pleased.

I'm not an expert, but I do have a friend in the business and have some experience. I bought the first publicity photo taken of the Beatles after Ringo joined the band, autographed by all four, in Fine condition (small tear in the corner that is hidden by the frame) for a high four figure sum in 1999, recently appraised in the low five figures.

Quite honestly, if I ever want to know what something like that is worth, I go to eBay to see what they are selling for.

Please note I said to see what they are selling for, not what they are listed for.
Being it is EBay, often things are bought but not paid for.... Ask me how I know having sold lots of things... often high bidders disappear and I'm thinking this may be the case. Sotheby's I'd believe $250K, EBay, call me skeptical.

@PatsFanSince74 Off topic, sort of. I have looked to see what has high value and I have found I have some cards that MIGHT have some value. Any idea where I go to get the most money?

Sorry. I don't know anything about Trading Cards, other than that I wished I had saved the ones I got with Bubble Gum when I was a kid...vintage Mays, Aaron, Koufax. My advice would be to go online and do a lot of research. Then, I'd find the most reputable dealer within a reasonable traveling distance and ask him/her to appraise them. I wouldn't sell them or consign them for sale until I had two or three opinions of their value. Condition is really important. Good luck!
