Tom Brady’s Ongoing Records Thread

Tomorrow Tom Brady will start his 299th regular season game, passing Brett Favre for the most all-time. In addition, Brady has 36 TD passes this season to move ahead of Drew Brees for most all-time (577-568). Put those together, and here’s a ridiculous accomplishment by Brady that will happen tomorrow. He’ll be the all-time leader for QBs in:
  • Games Started (Regular Season, Postseason, and Super Bowl, separately)
  • Wins (Regular Season, Postseason, and Super Bowl, separately)
  • Touchdown Passes (Regular Season, Postseason, and Super Bowl, separately)
In addition, if Brees retires as expected, Brady will likely next year add passing yards and completions to the list.

Combining regular season and postseason, Brady now has:
  • 340 starts
  • 259 wins
  • 90,103 passing yards
  • 650 passing touchdowns

Any updates on those records?

NFL Career Regular Season Records

Career Passing Yards:
Assuming Drew Brees will retire, Brady will need just 1,155 yards passing next season to become the NFL All-Time leader. TB12 and Brees have been going back and forth on that leader board for a few years.

Career Passing Touchdowns:
Brady is 1st with 581. Similar to the yardage stat, the two have gone back and forth. Tom past Brees in late October, and remained in that position for the rest of the year. Brees had temporarily laid claim to that title when he passed Peyton Manning in 2019.

Career Passes Completed:
TB12 needs 365 to pass Brees for most in NFL history. He threw 401 completions in 2020, so he should be able to surpass that mark sometime late next season.

Career Passes Attempted:
Brady (10,598) passed Brees (10,551) for this record during the 2020 season.

4th Quarter Comebacks:
Tom (39) needs four more to tie Manning for most ever.

Net Career Passing TD minus Career Interceptions:
Brady (+390) has by far long been the career leader in this category, with 581 TD vs 191 interceptions.
The net for the rest of the top 25 in passing touchdowns:
+328 - Drew Brees (571-243)
+323 - Aaron Rodgers (412-89)
+288 - Peyton Manning (539-251)
+212 - Philip Rivers (421-209)

Thanks for posting this.

I really love the Net stats (+/-) for TDs/INTs and also Wins/Losses. It's a great way to find that combination of efficiency and longevity.

Brady now has 263 wins (including postseason.)

He needs 37 more wins to reach 300. Manning is the only other QB to each 200 (he has exactly 200.)

With a 17 game schedule beginning next year and the Bucs looking pretty loaded, it’s a reasonable chance he could get there in 2023.

2021 (age 44)
2022 (age 45)
2023 (age 46)

Averaging a little over 12 wins for regular season and postseason (or 12 wins exactly if he wins SBLV), he would get to 300.

As of halftime on Jan 9 2020:

All-Time Leaders In Playoff TD Passes
1. Tom Brady, 75
2. Joe Montana, 45
3. Brett Favre, 44
T-4. Peyton Manning, 40
T-4. Aaron Rodgers, 40
6. Drew Brees, 34
7. Dan Marino, 32
8. Kurt Warner, 31
T-9. Terry Bradshaw, 30
T-9. Ben Roethlisberger, 30
I think the craziest part of this is that Erin Rodgers will probably finish second overall to Brady in playoff TDs.

Before Mahomes gets there I mean

  • Brady has the six highest passer ratings.
  • Brady's worst performance (by passer rating) was Super Bowl 53. In that game, he led the game winning drive and threw essentially the game winning pass to setup a run-in from the one yard line. Manning's best rating involved the game winning pick 6 against the Saints, while Mahomes's best included two interceptions.
  • Manning and Mahomes won MVP awards with passer ratings of 81.8 and 78.1; Brady achieved a passer rating above 81.8 nine times in ten games. Manning, Mahomes, and Roethlisberger combined achieved a passer rating over 81.8 just two times in nine games.

I’m defo a stats guy.....love seeing stats and records.

But I’m not a fan of this to be honest....firstly I think Rodgers and Brees should be there (I know the stipulation is minimum 2 Super Bowls) and secondly Russell Wilson & Eli Manning (both qualify with 2 appearances) should be there if Mahomes is.

Wilson would have spots 2 and 4 on that list with 123.1 (2nd) and 110.6 (4th), Eli would have 6 and 13 with 103.2 (6th) and 87.3 (13th)

the list shown is definitely cherry picking for Brady and he really doesn’t need it

defo agree with this! If that family didn’t exist then the Patriots have likely 10 Super Bowls and Brady 11

A few new records and/or milestones (rather than extending his own marks):
  • Only starting quarterback (or any player) to win Super Bowl MVP with two different teams. Peyton Manning won and MVP with the Colts but not the Broncos. (Editor’s note: Manning sucked in every Super Bowl.)
  • Only quarterback to win Super Bowl/Super Bowl MVP (two separate feats) for both an AFC and NFC team. Craig Morton started Super Bowls for the Broncos and Cowboys but lost both.
  • Only quarterback to win the Super Bowl in three different decades (00s, 10s, 20s).

These are the money stats for me when debating if Brady should be considered the GOAT athlete. The gap between him and #2 in the post-season is the biggest I believe in any team sport. Someone will have to let me know where Russell comes in. As I know he tops for titles but not sure on stats or overall playoff wins.

Off the top of my head, for the playoffs I think it’s

Russell for Championships
Jordan for PPG
LeBron for playoff wins and some total stats (points)

Thanks. I thought that was the case. It really is Brady by a mile when compared to the other team sport GOATs.

Super Bowl passing yards (3,039)

That's a very overlooked stat. 10 games at literally the highest level against the other best team in the league and you're averaging over 300/YPG. I'm sure the CGs average isn't as high simply because they've been played in cold and windy weather with the exception of @ Indy. NE, Pittsburgh, KC, Denver and GB. That's why I always knock Brees and Manning's numbers down a notch. The dome and warm weather are huge, especially the dome with no wind.
