Smith is a fossil, he won't make it through an entire season. He used to be good though...

Ridley is overpriced, he got outplayed by Christian Kirk on his own team last season before Kirk got hurt. His contract is stupid.

Pollard couldn't make it as the RB1 for Dallas, he's an undersized scatback. I'd rather have Gibson as long as he's not putting the ball on the ground.

This is the problem with your take, there were no impact players at the positions of need for the Patriots. I'd agree with you if Tristen Wirfs or Christian Darrisaw were free agents and the Pat's didn't take a shot at acquiring them, but they weren't.

The free agent class at OT and WR were mostly overrated garbage. The Pats have a few WR's already who might turn out better than Ridley. The stud free agent tackle wasn't available, he simply wasn't there. There were guys I wanted over Okorafor for certain, but they were similarly priced free agents... spending more wouldn't have been necessary.

They chose to pocket 43 million when those 70 players i listed were available. They are a better team with smith and Ridley.
If you are telling me Gibson is better than pollard let’s just stop there because I have no interest in any opinion you have about football if you believe that. And by the way pollard rushed for 1000 yards each of the last 2 seasons and averages 4.8/carry for his career.

Gibson has also rushed for over 1000 yards, he's 228 pounds and faster. Pollard is 210 pounds, he'll be a good third down back for the Titans, but I'll take Gibson for half the money.

If the starter on their teams gets hurt, Gibson can handle the load. Pollard looks good with another big back next to him, but he's no power runner and he's not running for tough short downs.

The only overwhelming win for Pollard is ball security. If Gibson is holding onto the ball he's a legit NFL starter, he's had fumbling issues... that can be fixed. I think the Pats want all their backs to be interchangeable, sticking a shrimp like Pollard out there doesn't fit what they're going for.

I want a better football team, I’m not sure what you want, but in any event, I see no value in having a discussion with you. You seem to want to defend whatever the team does, including not competing to build a roster and wasting their qb of the future.

My idea of building a football is using all of the assets you have and not competing with 20% of your team sitting in cash in krafts pocket.

Why would they make a slash next year if they did not this year, and when you answer be sure to include why they resigned there own players and how that is consistent with deciding it’s better to build a team next year instead of this year.
Why sign uche to a 1 year deal? Why franchise Dugger? Why bring back an aging Henry, an injured Bourne? Why sign brisset for 1 year if this year doesn’t matter? Why extend Godchaux? Etc etc

I'm not going to respond again as I'm moving on to Carolina, but I'll answer your larger question: They should make a larger splash next year instead of this year because of a little thing called timing. The Patriots entered this year with an abundance of team building riches; they had by far the most cap space/future cap space in the league and were effectively tied for 3rd in draft capital. Successful rebuilds are predicated on building around a stud QB, and drafting an unpolished potential stud QB pushed any hope of competing for a deep playoff run to 2025 (even if you had emptied Bob's bank accounts and spent every dime of their cap in 2024).

I never said that this year didn't matter, this year is the most critical year of the rebuild. This is the year where they develop their promising young players {most draft capital in 30 years plus a solid 2023 draft) and see what they have at QB. Let's see who impresses and who falls on their face in 2024 and then target the best FA fits in 2025.
