Thursday Night Football: Saints at Falcons

The Falcons may be the quietest 11-1 team in NFL History

They are practically sleepwalking through the season without anyone noticing of how good they are and Matt Ryan is very good.

No one wants to play Ryan at home in the playoffs, his home record is the NFCs version of NEs

The only problem with that is the well-know factoid that Matty Ice has never won a Playoff game, including at home, and couldn't get his team into the end zone on the ground or in the air last year @Giants in the postseason.

You're suggesting that things are different now, and maybe they are, but I wouldn't quite put him in Brady's league on his home turf in the Playoffs.

we just lost, but you can't have 5 3 and outs and expect the NO defense to hold.
along with 5 interceptions. Offense lost the game

Let's hope so. I still think Giants are the scariest team in the NFC. Wouldn't want to play them in the meadowlands, at home, in the super dome, or in a box with a fox. I do not want to play these Giants anywhere!

the giants overall are as bad as these other teams, the catch with them is that though they play mediocre sometimes, and bad often, they also have some rare amazing games, and they seem to always have those rare amazing games for the POs

its a formula that's worked this far, but will at some point blow up, too bad it hasn't been when we wanted it to

The streak is over! Now for Tom to capitalize... :rocker:

This has not been a banner year for Mr. Brees. He's been wildly inconsistent and has cost his team multiple games. Last season, he had only 5 games with a QB rating under 100, and only one was in the 70's. This season, he came into tonight's game with 5 games under 100 already, and 3 of those 5 in the 70's. Tonight, he was down around 37.5.

He's 33 years old. For the sake of Saints fans, I hope this season is just a hiccup rather than the beginning of the end.

yeah ATL won't last long in the playoffs..once again this year

even in the postgame he seemsto be talking about the record.

I bet it's suicide watch over there. No TD streak and 5 picks?

And Matty Ice needs to drop the Ice part. They will get ousted by a real contender as usual.

duh, he does not have the arm or near Brady's or PM abilities.. Hes a normal guy that has to prepare.
Brees has nothing special, you dont see that ?
His game is working hard , and out thinking. Doesn't always pan out.

Absolute stinker of a game. Sub par season for Brees. And if you don't think that Brady absolutely HAS to work very, very hard to prepare you don't know Brady's limitations.

That said, had we not been spoiled by Brady and enamored as fans, the Pats would be a perennial top contender with any of Brees, Brady, Rogers or Peyton Manning. They're the elite QBs. All exciting to root for.

I'm bullish on guys like RG3 for the future but want to see if he goes the way of last year's phenom.

Saints still have a realistic shot at 8-8 or even 9-7, which could get them in at as the 6 seed. Right now the teams tied for that spot are 6-5.

The Falcons have been perennial chokers but that could change at any moment. I can't give you a legit reason but I feel this year will be different, unless the Packers return to last season form and they wind up drawing them first. Teams like Chicago and NYG just don't strike me as consistent teams and NYG's postseason luck is bound to run out.

If we were +4 in turnovers against that defense we would have put up 40 points. If that's the best Atlanta's offense can do at home in prime time against their biggest rivals I am not impressed.

Brees has always been something of a gunslinger. He takes a lot of shots downfield, and puts a lot of balls into tight coverage. He had 22 INTs 2 years ago, and he's had a bunch of seasons with 15 or more. I think he was trying to do way too much and forcing things, and got burnt, just as he did against SF the week before.

Atlanta has a solid defense. Mike Nolan has done a nice job with them. I still don't see that team as being in the same class as SF, or even the Giants when they are on top of their game, but they are a balanced team and deserve credit for their consistency.

I liked hearing about Decker and Thomas suddenly becoming good receivers. It's almost as if they weren't talented young stars clearly on the upswing the season before. Decker went from 6 catches in 2010 to 44 catches in 2011. Thomas, who was dealing with that foot injury, had 32 receptions in 11 games last season, and showed his talent as the season went on, and into the playoffs.

But, now, it's all Manning. :bricks:

Yeah when they said that about Thomas and Decker I was screaming at the TV. It's just ridiculous, revisionist history at this point. Oh so you mean when they bring in a guy that can actually throw the ball and Thomas isnt injured their numbers get better? No kidding. That would have happened with any NFL caliber non-Tebow QB.

That loss opens it up for the Redskins to sneak in. At 5-6 if they can beat the Giants this Monday that puts them at 6-6 essentially 2 games up on the Saints since they have the head to head tie breaker with the only hard game they have left at home vs Baltimore. I cant see Minnesota getting to 9 wins with their schedule, Seattle probably loses to Chicago and SF which would give Washington the tie breaker in a 9 win scenario, and Tampa still has to play @NO, @Denver, and @ATL. Hopefully they can beat the Giants this week to make this really interesting, you know the league would love to see both RG III and Luck in the playoffs their rookie years.
