Just a thought and it may not happen today but Bolden has struggled catching the ball and if and when Amendola comes back along with the entire receiving core getting healthier and more experienced, I can see a situation arising where they won't want to have a weapon on the sideline due to an over crowded receiver position (isn't that a nice thought). Edelman is a pretty decent blocker so his blitz pickup would obviously be key before it would even be considered.

Since Vereen went down, we really haven't had a receiver threat in the backfield and how many times over the years have you seen that big 3rd down play by this spot.

I'm not suggesting he holds this role exclusively until Vereen returns but I think it would pose some challenges to defenses that currently don't exist.

As long as he isn't throwing the football.

Eh, I'm not taking the team's best WR -- who's currently #2 in receptions across the NFL -- and sticking him in the backfield in some kind of experiment. Besides, receptions out of the backfield aren't as big as those out the slot.

We could call it the Edelcat :rocker:

He was a QB in college so he is probably pretty decent at seeing the field from the backfield.

Edelman in the backfield - passing downs

He was a QB in college so he is probably pretty decent at seeing the field from the backfield.

He was an option QB. So the passing scheme he ran and the pats do it like 2nd grade math compared to calculus

I said it some time ago but I'd like to see Josh Boyce take on some sort of WR/RB hybrid role. Perhaps they've tried and he just isn't measuring up. But he measures up quite well in terms of size and athleticism with Vereen. Probably pie in the sky but it gives him a better chance of seeing the field potentially.
