This was never going to be a great season

I did. There were 6 losses last year that would have been wins with competent, not even average QB play.

That’s not blaming him for everything that’s identifying the games with pathetic qb play that would have been wins if the qb wasn’t pathetic.

This team absolutely did lose 6 games because of qb play. The games were played and it’s clear with anything other than terrible qb play they would have been wins.

qb play is dependent on the cast as well. Unless you have a mahomes or something you have to get your competent qb people to throw to and give him time to throw or the results will still be ugly regardless and you won’t score whatever you’re projecting in your hypothetical.

who knows, maybe our front office agrees with your assessment and thinks we could have won all those games if you just add the qb and thats why we mostly just moved sideways. Choose drake and call it a day.

Winning those 10 games wouldn’t have made this a good team. It would have made us an average-ish team that took advantage of weaker opponents and couldn’t hang with the big boys.
A team that needed to fix the Qb and use its 60 Mil and draft to upgrade the weaknesses and improve the team to work toward being a legit contender. Fix the OL, upgrade a few soots on both sides of the ball and draft a qb and you can contend and grow with the qb.

Instead we took a year off and banked some money

That is not at all how the NFL works.

It's tough for me to take this at face value now, when the only people saying they were seriously in on Ridley were Wolf and the Patriots camp.

Nobody blamed Mac jones for everything. Mac jones was blamed for putrid QB play. As the games played out Mac Jones and Zappe compared to below average, barely starting caliber QB cost the other 52 players 6 games they deserved to win if the QB was competant.
Maybe some hyperbole but I blamed Mac for everything and now I'm blaming Jacoby. I don't know how to blame anything else until we actually get competent QB play.

Yeah...I'm not going to just take Bob's word for it. It's *adorable* that you do though.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you, all things being equal, but I can't fairly judge the wide receivers or quarterbacks with the state of the offensive line at present. Mac and Bailey played behind a significantly better line, as sad as that is to say.

We’ve been a losing team 3 of the last 4 seasons, coming off a season where we were the 2nd or 3rd worst team in the entire league so maybe folks have just grown used to it.The standard hasn’t been that high here for years neither have the expectations. The hope is we can get back to winning football in due time but its not going to happen overnight
Right now I'm just going to enjoy the one win we have and the potential of a real honest to goodness QB.

Maybe we're not as desperate after the previous two decades. We also recognize how far we've fallen and don't expect as much, though as @Stu Pidassle mentioned earlier we may have inflated our expectations after week 1.

And speaking of inflation, isn't it great to know that the Indiots and Ratbirds are both 0-2 and could easily get to 0-3 with losses to Da Bears and Boys? That would be cool.

I think the point is those who want to defend the collaborative will argue that whatever deficiency you point out is irrelevant because it’s not the only deficiency, somehow thinking that nullifies it.
We are throwing for 102 yards a game. We have scored 3 TDs in 3 games.
Our entire receiver room is on pace for less than 1000 receiving yards.
We have allowed 11 sacks in 77 pass attempts.
The defense appears to be coming apart at the seams.

And the response is “you can’t fix everything in one year, the front office is doing just fine” and “give them time”

They beat a team that always stinks week 1, has their #2 out and their #1 just showed up from a hold out 2 days before and we lost to a mediocre team with a brand new coach, Geno Smith and their best player out.
We played a decent team at somewhat need full strength and weren’t competitive. The jets exploited what the film showed in the first 2 games.
Many here predicted that they'd struggle when they met a decent team. Well, that happened.

My question, and one that should be being addressed and explained to us fans, is how the heck did they get here and what are they going to do to fix it?

Plenty of teams are able to avoid the bottom even without winning. Usually those teams have a decent supply of good players from the draft or FA. The Pats don't seem to have many.

Patriots defenses were always about bend but don't break.. teams were always able to move the ball but were were always stout in the red zone. I would not say the teams overachiever IMO they played to thier capability in the win..and had a few plays not go thier way in the Seattle game
The Jets game they didn't even show up.

San Francisco will likely be without CMC, Kittle and deebo.. if the secondary allows Purdy to go for 300 then you know what the defense isn't what I thought they were.
The Pats dynasty consisted of two halves. Of course there were exceptions, but the first half was dominated by the defense and the second the offense. The struggle in between was during the transformation and the change to the Manning Rules.

Absolutely agree! Great points! The bill polian crying to the NFL. I try not to overeact to wins or loses. Of course wins make a fan optimistic and losses can do the opposite. I guess I can say I'm more balanced. They are still a good defense that is now dealing with what every team has injuries. They caught a break with Kittle, Mcaffre, deboo being out next week. They need to make Purdy look like the 199th pick in draft, and not allow him to look like the 199th pick who won 7 rings.

If you have something factual that it was all a ruse feel free to post your findings at anytime.

It wasn't just the Polian rule change. That got followed by the Brady rule following his blown knee. Which was then followed by the concussion rules.

Right but it got started with pollian. Wich I alway thought was odd becuase bill was on the NFL rules committee too.. I'm sure that likely ended after spy gate..

Definitely the Polian rules are the start of the new era.

We could go back to the start of the forward pass or when they added roughing the passer lol.

Your right. Lmao... us winning like we did we changed the NFL... we created a trend I'm the NFL.. look at chiefs.. tell me that wasn't the Brady/Belichick offense that got them to another SB last season? We won like that for years.

Yep Bill really did a number on this roster didn’t he. Not something that is usually easily fixed by getting one player or two in an area of need.
