This was never going to be a great season

Every team bottoms out. Every team does. It all depends on what you do to get out of that. Scratch that, not every team does but those that don't chug along in NFL purgatory. Doesn't mean you don't get out of the bottom if you aren't smart about it but man it infuriates me that some "fans" are completely content with 8-9, 9-8 and maybe a playoff game that you get blown out in. Year in, year out the same thing, hope and promise only to come crashing down.

If Maye is the guy and next offseason they do the following. FA grab or trade for a Grade A no kidding WR. Draft a blue chip high end LT and maybe even a center.

What would people say then? Rome wasn't built in a day and this franchise was left in dire, dire straits. Give it a couple of years before you start hammering them. I will be right there with you.
Who is completely content with 8-9 or 9-8?

Is 4-13 better? Why could they have built a competitive team this year to win 7 or 8 games and then added these mysterious players that you think they can snap their fingers and get? And then what about the defense that’s coming apart at the seams?

I’m not concerned about results right now, I am concerned that they have any clue how to build a team. This may have been the worst off season I have ever seen a team have.
Rome wasn’t built by looking around hoping for a miracle and doing nothing to build it either.

There were dozens of free agents better than what we have on our roster. We have many weaknesses.
We have a team that was 4-13 and has less talent now that it did last year. An 8-12 million player is not marginally better than a practice squad caliber guy.

Why would tilling it over to next year matter? If we didn’t drive it this year why would we next year?

The team looks how the team looks. We can only evaluate what happens on the field. If we can’t name a single addition that has improved the roster, it seems pretty clear what is going to follow.
They are better at QB, K, RB2, CB, TE2 than last year. That’s at least 5 additions that improved the team.

Coaching is better too by virtue of not being a dysfunctional mess.

With two average tackles, this was a playoff team.

We also needed a top receiver, at least one better than Bourne.

We also needed a QB better than Brissett. Maye is not a Year One playoff QB.

Finally, we needed a replacement for Barmore.

I agree. We need a lot for 2025: our QB to be ready, a top WR, a top LT, a Backup LT and perhaps even a RT. We also need to extend or replace our key free agents and add a top DT and/or LB.

Because we didn't sign a LT and our QB is at least a year away, we were never close to being competitive for the playoffs this year. Losing Judon, Barmore, Bentley and even Ximines just made things worse (as well as the injuries to Lowe and Sow).
How was the plan solid? The plan was to get not acquire a single solitary LT and sign a RT in free agency and draft a RT. The result was they not only didn’t get a LT they didn’t get a RT either and had to move our RG out of position to RT.
Please explain where you see there was a different plan, other than making one up and pretending they wanted to do differently than they did.

Well I think lists like this need to be in the discussion .... decently high draft position and ...
Who does Wolf has his eyes on with the cap $$$.
I do not think it will be a 3-4 year thing ... next year there will be a serious move up.
Just 1 list here ... I tried to stay current ... anyways I think we will be spending.

I would add #3 safety.

And we do not have a playoff level defense either.

Love how the fans who blamed Mac jones for literally everything last year are only now realizing that the roster was never just a QB away from being a competitive one.

A little later than the rest of us but better late than never I guess.
Nobody blamed Mac jones for everything. Mac jones was blamed for putrid QB play. As the games played out Mac Jones and Zappe compared to below average, barely starting caliber QB cost the other 52 players 6 games they deserved to win if the QB was competant.

So you’re contradicting yourself then. Or severely overrating the roster and coaching last season.

I'll give you kicker and RB2.

CB but they were here last year just hurt.

Starting QB is worse. Backup is much better now.

TE2 should be better but we haven't seen it yet.

We opted to use some mid round picks at OL and did some bargain shopping, hoping something would work out there. If wallace or someone pans out at a spot of need you filled it for a fraction of the price and you go into next year with hopefully less major need to fill. If they don’t you win 5 games instead of 8, really not something id be polluting every other thread with the same complaints about. Expecting this team to go from 4-13 to a playoff team or something because you added a couple mid tier fa’s isnt very realistic.

Besides, spending doesn’t guarantee results , i would love to say im going to spend x amount of $$ and its going to fill a need but thats not how it works. if they didn’t feel strongly about a player why force a potentially bad contract thats going to eat from the future, which is your priority at the point we’re in right now.

Pretty sure you were one of the guys saying last years team is a winning team with an average QB. That is essentially blaming mac for everything. Teams don’t go 4-13 because of one guy holding them back. The Steelers won 10 games with kenny pickett and mason rudolph. We had problems all over the place and there is no fast solution here.

It’s pretty clear that there were players available better than the ones we have.
And yes if you have an effective front office, it’s pretty easy to determine what players are better than others and who would be upgrades. Teams have find it forever, they assess their players and go and sign better ones. Our players are bad, yet you think we are the only team would could find better ones.

With 60 million we could have upgrade 6-10 starting positions and 6-10 more backups. Instead we have weak players starting and guys who should be on the practice squad as depth.

I did. There were 6 losses last year that would have been wins with competent, not even average QB play.

That’s not blaming him for everything that’s identifying the games with pathetic qb play that would have been wins if the qb wasn’t pathetic.

This team absolutely did lose 6 games because of qb play. The games were played and it’s clear with anything other than terrible qb play they would have been wins.

Not spending much gets you ….not much. Absolutely correct that it guarantees nothing, neither does the draft….

2025 draft is very loaded for edge rushers ... DT's also.
If the QB's are over valued we will do well in the draft and the cap money.
