This is our best WR group since what year?

It's not just last year we are getting, we are getting last year + development/growth/familiarity. Plus two great additions. If/when we lose Boutte that would suck. Losing Diggs sucked, but Brown is a net positive there.

This is a crazy good group, I'd say best since 2007 or so but I hate doing such comparisons b/c the QB is different, OL is different, etc

1986
Morgan had 84 receptions, 1491 yds, 18 YPC
Fryar had 43 receptions, 737 yds, 17 YPC

In terms of pure talent, this tandem is in a class only matched by Moss and Welker.
Good stuff. In ‘78 with Grogan completing 48.7% of his throws, Morgan and Jackson each had over 1,000 yards and >22ypc.

Doubs just a guy. woulda preferred bringing back Diggs
There’s still talk about that. Saw this suggestion he has an offer in hand but would prefer to come back here.

How would we feel about having our WR lineup being
BROWN DOUBS DIGGS WILLIAMS HOLLINS ?
Or would it be
BROWN DIGGS DOUBS WILLIAMS HOLLINS ?

It's pretty remarkable that the Patriots had the GOAT QB, WR, and TE.

and GOAT slot WR.

I always like to make the pointless observation that the 2010 Patriots had these players to start the season:

Moss
Welker
Edelman
Gronk
Hernandez

On paper, that is the best offensive receiving group in history and there's literally no competition. In reality, well, it was the end of an old era and the emergence of a new.

Doubs is 26, 6'2 210, entering his prime. Diggs is 32, 6'0 190, plays smaller than that, and is well past his prime. We're WAY better off with Doubs.
Why not both?

Would you prefer to have Doubs and Diggs? Or Doubs and Boutte?

Which would be harder to defend?

Personally I’d be happy either way, but Boutte wants out and reportedly Diggs wants to be here, so why not make them both happy?

On paper, this group is not as good as 2018: Antonio Brown, Gordon, Edelman, Dorsett. Not to mention a guy like Burkhead's role.

Obviously that group had its issues, but OP's take is wild to me. 29 years old with potentially gimpy knees, a guy who might be Reche Caldwell part 2. I'm hopeful that they pan out to be a great tandem addition and we have our best offense since 2015 or 2007 but idk man, no wonder everyone was so excited to ship off a future pick for AJB if you guys are this hyped on him...

1978 was the year the PAts set the record for most rushing yards in a season with over 3000 yards (since broken). Defenses had to respect the run so it opened up the passing game.

I have no questions regarding Brown on the field. he is, and will be, a stud. Off the field contract and health are my concerns.(health not so much)
Doubs is for now a question mark. Can he elevate his game with Maye? Can he get on the same page as Maye?
Boutte, if he stays, could play slot (as can Doubs and Brown). Would he get 60+ targets in this offense out of the slot? would that set him up in free agency, and make him happy?
Hollins, Pop are in their last seasons here, and if cut offer decent cap relief. Both on the field are reliable #4 or 5's. Hollins offers ST value.
Williams offers potential. nothing more at this point. maybe he is the primary KR

lmao, I thought that movie was underwhelming guess that’s a hot take. Seemed from the start it was going to be a lot scarier than it ended up being
It had shocking scenes instead of scary scenes? Watch hereditary if you want scary from the same studio, A24.

29 (next month) isn't old; Diggs was 31 last season. We can reasonably expect to get 3 good seasons from him, thru age 31. The knee hasn't caused him to miss time, no surgeries, passed the physical.

His talent vs man coverage is obvious, makes big plays regularly, draws the #1 CB, big physical guy (I think of Terrell Owens), causes safeties to stay back and shade his way. Experienced, has a ring, ready to go, and should work well with Maye. We haven't had anyone like him in recent history.

His cap hit is low this season, and the 1st round comp isn't due for 2 years. It's a good deal for an instant fix at very low cost the next couple of years.

Come to think about it, trading a first round pick doesn't bother me much. Now that the team is good again, Goodell would find a way to take away (steal) a first round pick for bogus reasons like he's done in the past.

The N’Keal years were the best j/k, I have short memory so this years the best

I think they moved on from Diggs when they knew they were getting Brown. They also already paid Doubs.

There’s only so much money you want to spend on one positional group. Also if they want to be good in the future you have to develop young guys like Williams, Chism and the UDFA’s now.

29 is not an age to just shrug off. There is a non-zero chance they can fall off the cliff. That injuries can start piling up at age 29 even when not having injury issues in earlier seasons. It's not an unreasonable concern.

When you’re a Super Bowl contender trading a pick late in the first round is more like trading a second round pick than a pick at the top of the first round.
