This. It's not a matter of whether there will be trolls or not, they'll always be there. It's how much attention you give them and how much you allow it to derail threads. Productive debate is good but as the post I quoted points out, some of the trolls are rather obvious and the ignore functions are here for a reason.

Someday, hopefully long in the future, the Pats will suck. Either we'll get trolled for sucking or not trolled at all because we suck so bad. I haven't posted at JI in forever. Why bother when it's more fun to see them suffer in their own self-loathing?
