So...a spectacular athlete, prototype numbers for the position, but raw as a side of beef. Day-1 Patriots material?

As it turns out, yes. Not Barwin, not Maybin, not Gilbert...Vollmer. One of the rawest football players in the entire draft, but holy smokes what athletic potential:

6'7.5" 312 5.13/2.90/1.77 32 36.5" 9.03" 4.50 7.51

That's pretty much otherworldly. Granted they're pro day numbers because he wasn't a combine invitee, but 32 reps and a 36.5" vertical? And those 32 reps were pushed up by some crazy-long arms. Plus he's supposed to be a very smart guy, and is about to get the best crash course in offensive line play available anywhere.

On an otherwise solid, practical but boring day 1, here's one shot at the moon.

Nope, I could never get a firm enough handle on his upside, and of course no media linking him to Coach Scarnecchia clearly limited our ability to gauge the team's interest. He was drafted where I expected NE to take a project, though my two choices were T.J. Lang and Jason Wiliams whom I now hope are obtainable with the extra Thirds from Green Bay.
