Poor Poggi is fighting for a roster spot this season. Unfortunately he was put into a lose lose situation last night during the 3rd preseason game. After catching a pass from Hoyer out in the open field he is faced with a dilemma of whether to lower his head or not.
Unfortunately he followed the rules while the defender did not. Unfortunately the refs did not throw the flag. Unfortunately Poggi fumbled because of the illegal hit. Great job NFL.
A. If he lowers his head to lower his head to lower his shoulders he could possibly receive a fifteen yard penalty nullifying the yardage gained.
B. If he doesn't lower his head he allows the defender , who F'ing lowers his head, a clean shot at the ball nullifying the positive play.
Lose lose.

- Player lowers his helmet to establish a linear body posture prior to initiating and making contact with the helmet
- Unobstructed path to his opponent
- Contact clearly avoidable and player delivering the blow had other options
