Vellano's numbers aren't terribly surprising. He had an obscene number of tackles at DT in college as well. He's an incredibly active player with a nonstop motor. Good player and a great find by BB.

What drop on the first drive? First play shown here in the Dallas area was the pass to Hoomanawanui.

Furthermore, I didn't realize having a guy draped on you and defending the ball was considered a drop. I guess the NFL has been counting them wrong all these years.

Pretty sure it was before that play, in fact I think it was the first play from scrimmage. Was the game already in progress when your affiliate switched over? If so, you probably missed it.

Could have sworn C.Jones got 2 sacks instead of 1.

It was, simple pass to him at the LOS, no defender in his face and he just dropped it cold.

What the heck are you guys talking about on the false start? Close judgment call, but to me the right call. Defenders can come across if they get back.

Yes, some offensive linemen are very good at taking advantage of the play and making it look like they got induced to move, and that gets called sometimes, but it's the exception not the rule. The offensive line needs to be still unless there is contact or there is unabated to the QB. If a defender causes an immediate and natural reaction, you can call a defensive foul, but it's a judgment call and I thought Aikman was absolutely right that the offensive lineman moved as a consequence of the hard count not as a result of the defensive movement. Offensive linemen are not allowed to move just because the defensive line did and get the call.

And for the record, I am hardly a homer when it comes to evaluating refs -- anyone that's seen my posts knows exactly otherwise.

This win was the most impressive this season.

It took a lot of mental toughness and grittiness to come through in the clutch. Doubters and haters will do what they do, but this team has the heart of a champion.

Yeah they probably counted the 2nd one as a TFL on a run play.

Off the top of my head, they didn't give Brees a TO that he was clearly calling for, they gave Hooman a catch that clearly hit the ground, and they called a false start on a pivotal 4th and 1 that was pretty clearly a NFI against the Pats. But again, that's just part of the game. Every team has games where they get the calls and games where they get screwed, and there isn't much of anything that the team can do about it. Hopefully Pats fans remember this game next time a couple calls go against us, and refrain from claiming some cast anti-Pats conspiracy exists.

The scorer judged that Brees intended to run the ball instead of roll out and pass it on the one that forced the punt before the Pats drove down and won the game.

I agree that they did well re: personal foul calls/non-calls. I don't love the rules as they're currently written, but each call was correct according to those rules.

They will look at that "sack" to determine what the correct ruling is. They can adjust stats after the fact.

The unsung hero of this game is easily Chandler Jones. If he doesn't stop Brees on that 3rd and 7 run, thats an easy first down and the end of the game.

Funny how they ignore the Saints offensive holding or the Dobson OPI etc.

There again, nearly every week you'll see a "this game was rigged!!!!" thread when the Patriots win.
