I could have sworn we had two big hard runs right up to that point? And they were not stopping the run, why would it be stupid to think we couldn't get one yard on another power run? We see how the alternative turned out, never had a shot at all on the play action.

It's not stupid to think that a run play would've worked.

It's stupid to blame the play calling when the execution of a equally viable play is at fault.

there's a flaw in your thinking...you think this is a fix by a crooked official for some monetary reason...or it's the mafia boogeyman. That is NOT what is going on here. This is orchestration of outcomes to maximize corporate profits across the spectrum of business interests involved. The NFL owners, the big sports networks, ESPN and NFLN and the advertising megacorps. What does the Panther Steve Smith say after the game "Cam showed HE has become a big star and tHIS Proof that he should be in the big games and this makes him a huge star..at 24 years old"...nice Steve, try not reading from the ESPN teleprompter next time.

This league, with the looming concussion liabilities, is headed into full blown WWE territory. Tonight, Cam Newton just insured years of continued hero worship and sales by NFL fans across a broad spectrum of bases. Cam beat Brady "in the big game!!!!" ..every kid from the Bronx to South Central will be sporting Cam jerseys...from You Tube vids to concerts nationwide. Just watch. THAT is the fix. It's not the near non existent mafia, crooked refs, Vegas or any of those phony boogeyman. It's BUSINESS. A billionaires boys club in concert with national media and advertising.

Not this Bronx Guy! I've been sportin my Pats gear since 1976, now & ALWAYS!

As laughable as that non-call was, I love the way Bill reacted to it in his post game press conference. Barely even acknowledges that the play even happened, says very little about it, no whining about it at all. His silence on the matter says it all.

Watch it again.

They actually put time back on the clock after the Ginn TD. And yes, the clock operator was very slow to stop the clock when required.

Gin scored at 1:01. It was at :59 when the ball was kicked off.

and yet everyone STILL denies what is happening before their eyes.

Raven/SF...ONE penalty against SF, none against the Ravens....I showed dozens of clear PI's that happened in that Super Bowl. SF was DENIED at the end...clear PI...why???

you saw HIM tonight...Ray Lewis on ESPN...star power baby...keep buying them Ray Lewis jerseys too...tune into ESPN and frequent our sponsors...Ray Lewis went out on top so that means you WANT more of our products to remember this great story...until our NEXT great story comes along...suckers

Your right Joker. I love this game. It is so hard to think about not watching anymore. But WTF? Dam, I am a sucker

I don't buy that. Steve McNair and Colin Kaepernick were both hybrid QBs who came within inches of a ring.

The big issue on the one early Newton run play I remember is that Hightower clearly had spy duty, but got sucked into the line and was too slow to recover. The other big one was the one where he dodged a few sacks and at that point you just shake your head and shrug, there's not much you can do about that one.

Kaepernick had half a season, and it panning out that way this year.

McNair was a qb first .... More like Steve young than Newton. Just because you can run does not mean you should. Newton doesn't play like a top pick

New England Patriots vs. Carolina Panthers - Play By Play - November 18, 2013 - ESPN

A pass was probably the smarter play there. I'm not defending the pass as the "right" call there, btw. I'm just noting that it was not a 'bad' call. The Patriots were moving the ball well. Pretty much any call that didn't wasn't reliant upon foolishness by the Panthers would have been fine there.

So Nate Ebner has passed Tavon Wilson on the depth chart?

but

two awesome plays by Wilson on kickoff coverage.

Yep.......

There's plenty to criticize in that game. Calling a pass on that 3rd and 1 is just not one of them. People will do it, though, because it's easier to feel than to think.

lol, I see we have "High Brows" here just like any other forum.

I guess the argument is that while Gronk could have broken up the INT, the game would have been over anyway, and he couldn't have outright caught the pass.[/QUOTE}

I don't think that's accurate. Gronk was redirected 5-6 yards before the "bear hug"/interception. If you look at where the contact was first made, it looks like he may have been exactly where that ball was thrown. The contact took him out of the play. Even if the officials didn't want to call PI, they have to call something. Its blatant face guarding/holding. If nothing else, the ball should have been moved five yards closer with one last play. It was a terrible call.

I forgot Blount was the RB there, too. Blount is also pretty awful in short yardage, generally, so a pass made even more sense.

New England Patriots vs. Carolina Panthers - Play By Play - November 18, 2013 - ESPN

In general, under the circumstances, a pass was actually the smarter play there. I'm not defending the pass as the "right" call there, btw. I'm just noting that it was not a 'bad' call. The Patriots were moving the ball well. Pretty much any call that didn't involve really stupid chicanery would have been fine there.

Yeah, but Vrabel left along time ago.

Fnord - You must have watched a different game because the PI was not questionable. And the claim that Cannon almost ended a guy's season is laughable. Or do you actually believe Gruden when he called it a "leg whip" when in actuality it was just Cannon rolling to his left and onto Johnson's knee.

Seriously, you need to use your eyes and not Gruden's blathering. He was wrong on just about every call tonight. Including the one where he claimed McCourty was holding Olsen when it was clear as day that Olsen had McCourty's Jersey just behind his right armpit...

If you're going to assume I'm too stupid to form my own opinions based on what I watch then why bother replying to me?

Minor nitpick:

Why is Edelman in over KT on the final play of the game. Is a 5'11 slot WR more likely to catch an endzone game winner over a 6'1 WR?

Hopefully Thompkins winds up as the WR3 soon. The redundancy of having two slot WRs on the field on most plays is not helping.

It would have been a good playcall if it had worked. It wasn't, so it wasn't. . . . It was a fine playcall and the execution failed.

The playcall was logical and not blatantly bad. The only bad playcall there would have been some sort of reverse or something, or that dumb Wildcat call the Panthers ran inside the 10 earlier in the game.

The boldfaced part is exactly right.

There are two related, but distinct issues with playcalling. First, was it logical (i.e., did it make sense at the time), and second, was it successful (did it work).

This call was logical—or, at worst, not illogical—but it didn't work.

Something that ticked me off after the game came from Belichick. Apparently after picking up the flag, the refs scurried away like cowards w/o so much as a explanation

lol, I see we have "High Brows" here just like any other forum.

There's nothing high brow about telling people to think when they're ignoring an 11-for-11 streak by the QB.

Also - you guys claiming conspiracy here, you're all going to stop watching the NFL, right?

Because there's no logic behind watching a game you honestly think is fixed. Not even a little.

We got beat more due to not containing Cam than any penalty.

I'm not sure why people need to get all grassy knoll about this ****.

Keep trying to convince us that is was a good call. I know how you love being right all the time so don't think too hard

Actually the 3 and 1 was a good call. It's a great run D. He had Dobson by a step but the rush forced Brady to throw it away. The execution wasn't there. It happens.

The first drive in the second half was brilliant. that's McD designing that drive, with three TEs and Blount.

When you bear hug, that's defensive holding at least.

Face guarding, as was established with the Ellis Hobbs cr*p call in the 2006 AFCCG, is perfectly legal.
