Has the team ever looked this bad in any of their preseason games since 2001? I honestly don't think they have. If anyone can name one in which the starters got kicked around the way they did, I'd love to be enlightened....anyone know of a third preseason game in which the Patriots were down 27-10 in the Belichick era????????

Tampa I think in the early 2000's.

Should someone care? its a pre-season game. the bad thing about this game is that our OL does suck and it reflects by all that screen plays pats use. and still, its a pre-season game.

They didn't look good last year in their 3rd preseason game, and I remember a preseason game against the Jaguars. They didn't look good in that one either. I've seen worse, but this is bad.
The O-line got exposed in this game, IMO. There is a problem there that needs to be fixed ASAP!

I recall Tampa and Denver for years making us look worse then we were. Especially the Donkeys. Even in our heyday we just barely squeaked by them with a miracle play and a crazy call by Belichick. After seeing last years game with the Lions and tonight, I'm thinking like years past with Denver, we just don't match up with them well.

Didn't Tom Brady have a perfect passer rating vs the Lions last year?

I think that BB is treating this game differently than he would in the past bercause of the strike. I think hes using it to do more evaluation and getting different players working together. Things he would have had time to work on in OTA's Etc. I also think that the players heads are back here because of the hurricane and not on football in Detroit.

Last week I was happy that the Pats were in midseason form. This week I am pissed they didn't come to play. I know the Pats defense was in the nickel the entire half, but there is no excuse for lack of effort and execution.

Why?

Why should BB have gameplanned this tonight? What is at stake?

I CAN say that it is on national TV and there are plenty of scouts in the stadium for the 3rd preseason game (the one traditionally where scouts can see the closest thing to regular season stuff).

At this point, BB knows what he has on that defensive side of the ball. They are not playing the rabid, pit bull D of last week. They are playing the bend and break of last year.

I will say the one worrying thing tonight is the OL. Everyone is complaining (rightfully) about the pass protection, but notice the run push from them is non-existent. The only good gains have come on draws.

I can understand not showing all the cards in your deck....but to come out and get completely embarrassed and humiliated can't be good for the psyche of the team

Maybe the game planning is not at its finest but that is not even the issue here. We are just outmatched physically at the line; they may have a fancy gameplan but they haven't needed it at all. They can just run right through our line and jump on top of Brady before he even knows where the receivers are. And our defense... boy... they are outrunning and outjumping everyone including mccourty. I thought hurricane Irene was coming over here... didn't know the eye was at Ford field !

That there's no direct correlation between preseason play and regular season play?

Really, it's not that complicated.

I remember a Cowboys squad that went 0-4 preseason, and won the SB.
And I've seen great pre-seasons over the years that proved nothing when it counted.
No direct correlation.

I believe it was in 2004 that the pats got crushed by Cinncy in the Third Pre season game they looked putrid, but that turned out to be a SB year.

Well, I hope to the Good Lord this is all part of the head coach's plan to win another Super Bowl

At least run defense was fine.

The O-Line was exposed LONG before This game.

I got one better, the Patriots got manhandled and beaten up far worse by the Bills about 9 years back (I think it was a week 2 game). Of course that matters less than this game because that vicious beating was a regular season game (oh yeah, we ended up winning the super bowl that year too).

what the hell brady? his accuracy is all over the place.

Great. Taylor Price still doesn't understand the offense. Doesn't have Brady's trust, don't expect to see him at all until 2012.

Save for the numerous times the Patriots brought extra men only to see Stafford complete a 20 yard pass.....

You saw the defense blitz more than one player in their 4 DL set?

I never saw ONE time...maybe you could point out those SPECIFIC plays...I DID count as he made drops and he consistently had 4 count pass plays...he got hit a few times...but I haven't seen ONE defensive set that looked remotely like anything they showed in game two

Is it me or does Woodhead look a little slow this week.

3 and out against the scrubs. Well, I feel better.
