The Official Patriots vs Lions Pre-Season Game Thread

it's the way belichick operates. you remember a few years ago when ridley fumbled in the playoffs? didn't play in the super bowl. i realize that this is a much different situation, but it's the way BB is.

kind of a different situation, Ridley was not the #1 and he can't afford the mistake at that point.

Plus it was a bad decision

I realize the Lions aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut, but the Patriot's D has come up big keeping them to 16 points.

Offense needs to eliminate the mistakes--4 turnovers in one half isn't going to get it done.

I love how Thompkins get open but he needs to stay in bounds and get as many yards as he can--by my count he's stepped out twice when there were more yards to be had. I'm sure he'll hear it from BB who yelled at Amendola during a recent practice I was at saying Danny, we're trying to get as many yards as we can--not get out of bounds!

I like what I saw from the defense. I'm not happy with the offensive line. They are getting beaten at the line of scrimmage. I saw the same thing in the playoffs with this group. They do not do well against defensive lines like the lions. They get hit in the mouth and they crumble. Not good, IMO.

Lots of mistakes by everyone on offense. Now let's see how mentally tough they are.

Yup simply not strong enough, same stuff for years and years now.

i know, ridley should have been playing

Sounds far fetched. You want your rookies to develop confidence, and get as much experience in the real thing as possible.

Doesn't make sense.

That IS the real thing. You fumble, you get benched.

Realistically the passing game had a really good first half, 16/24 for a 66.66% completion percentage and 185 yards is a very good half, the running game has not been good, and the OL has been giving up a lot of pressure.

Oh yeah those 4 turnovers weren’t that great either?

Considering that the pats have a make shift line going up against Suh, Fairly, and Anoush three very high rnd picks i'm cutting them some slack.

But you haven't seen Bolden or Vereen on the field since they fumbled either. With Belichick, the rules are the rules. Can't make an exception for the rookie and not the veterans especially with Bolden fighting for a roster spot.

This was a bad team to be going into the game with your third string right guard starting. Svitek was definitely outmatched in the first half. I think he has affected Vollmer too. I think Vollmer is missing stuff outside because he has to watch inside too.

Don't be shocked if BB picks up a vet OG after the cut to 53, 52 or 51.

Chandler Jones is playing pretty well tonight. I don't know what you are watching.

He's had absolutely no pressure on Stafford and no disengagement from the LT. If that's considered playing well, so be it.

Has Fauria always commentated on the games? Sorry, not super familiar with the local channels.

I tend to doubt it unless Cannon and/or Connolly are not ready for the start of the season.

Megatron catches everything within a 10 mile radius of him, if Tom had one of those to throw to he'd break 10,000 yards. Stafford ain't all that, he's good though

That IS the real thing. You fumble, you get benched.

I get it, but in the back of my mind I can't help but wonder if it's counterproductive. Does sitting idle, obsessing over your mistakes really make for improvement, as opposed to going back in and having a chance to redeem yourself?

He's a ROOKIE for the love of god. Where else do you expect him to develop ball security skills if not in a real game?!? - in a walk-through practice?!?!
