Raiders sign Lafell.

Really wish the Pats would sign him. Very surprised he was cut by the Giants, had a solid preseason. Bad 1st game, but came on strong in the 2nd. Played well in the 3rd. I think he could be a good QB, worst case scenario, a solid backup.

Eric Smith?!? Complete waste of time.

Between the active roster and the PS, the Pats need to have a total of 10 OL in order to be able to field a full 5-man scout team OL.

There has never been, nor will there ever be, a time when even the majority of players on the PS/scout team are viable developmental candidates for the 53-man. Most are JAGs who simply fill a scout team role well.

While I like him more than Lynch or other options the thing to consider is that during the regular season it is difficult to add a QB without much system knowledge to the roster.

You either have to sacrifice a roster spot for him on the 53 and go with 3 QBs or see if he is ok with spending time on the practice squad. Because your QB2 needs to know everything already. You don't want to end up in a situation where your QB1 is out for maybe 2-3 games, your backup is still learning the offense and you can't run anything except the most vanilla garbage.

Etling seems like a dude who is a hard worker has a strong arm good athleticism maybe in a season or 2 he develops into a weapon.

And therein lies the problem.

Or, perhaps its a symptom of the problem with convincing legit developmental prospects to sign on with the Pats when signing on with a different, weaker team might get them to an active roster more quickly.
