Vrabel's pushing the youth movement but I gotta believe Gilmore can play at a high level for a few games...that might be all we need. Then he can come off the bench. Backing up Gonzo and Davis would be great. All the slander and libel this guy took here, still makes me sick.
I would love it.Vrabel's pushing the youth movement but I gotta believe Gilmore can play at a high level for a few games...that might be all we need. Then he can come off the bench. Backing up Gonzo and Davis would be great.
In hindsight maybe we didn't focus enough on higher quality DB's in the off-season. It's ok to make a mistake...not signing Gilmore to a 1 year contract (if he still has wheels) would be another mistake. Mike can right that wrong and sign him.I would love it.
What would give me pause is that Dallas, who could use, literally, any functional corner, doesn't want him.
Vrabel should really be calling him about a workout though to see for sure. I agree.
Maybe it was just a match up issue with a change that you had a speedy sub 4.3 RB that cannot be accounted by LBs . We need a speedy and rangy free safety to excel in that . Prolly woodson grows into it.Spillane and Ellis are down hill thumpers.. Spillane can cover better than Ellis.. however you typically don't want your LBs exposed in coverage you want your safeties to to that.. you want the LBs to take care of RBs and drop them for losses.. but your right on your overall post
I definitely was all for a 2-year goodbye deal for Steph. But the fact that Dallas still hasn't signed him (and Steph has publicly said he wanted to go back there) is kind of telling. He's really the perfect guy to round out the CBs.In hindsight maybe we didn't focus enough on higher quality DB's in the off-season. Maybe they think he is cooked as you say. Dallas doesn't want him either.
If these hamstring and tissue injuries become the norm for him, I can see them still giving him his 5th Year Tag, but perhaps signing another still young #1 "Shutdown" CB in FA (should one actually become available), to a Gilmore-Like contract who's much more durable. The burden is on him to show the Team that this isn't going to be an every season thing with him. His talent is undeniable, but if he can't be on the field and playing at an optimal level on a steady basis, I can't see they giving him that big Post-Draft Contract (nor should they).I have a real concern over his durability.
Agreed. I think we are going to see alot more of Marty..he's fast, rangy and had good closing speed at the LB level.. I like Spillane and sometimes guys just have off games.. prime ray Lewis couldn't even cover Achane. White... he's probably best suited in the interior.. Woodson is getting better with each game he playsMaybe it was just a match up issue with a change that you had a speedy sub 4.3 RB that cannot be accounted by LBs . Maybe can we try white as an ILB . He is heavy but I am hoping if gaps are lower he can at least ram the RB or free runner hard ..
Is he available??
I also checked my local home depot and didn't see him in there so that's a good thing. LOL.. I would have liked to see what he could do in a rotational spot at CB.. I've accepted that the secondary while gonzo is out is going to be attacked by every OC we play.. the secondary was constructed with the idea of gonzo being a huge peice of it. You remove him and what we've seen is what we've gotten. While looking to see if anyone grabbed him; I saw his draft report briefly from his 6th rnd selection by seahags.
Mensurables seemed ok.
I can’t see most TC or preseason games, so have no opinion how he looked, but that no one grabbed him in this CB needy world; either he has a shadow roster promise (turning down other ps offers) & is hanging out sweeping floors or no one interested.
He’s a FAIs he available??
I was thinking about Marte Mapu too he could seriously lock up that weak LB spot. His skill sets would be perfect for the position because he can cover some too.I do like Marty being inserted more.. Ellis is a down hill LB.. I like Marty's versatility and ball skills.. he should be playing more...
Native Bostonian so I'm not the most optimistic guy...I say Gonzalez is out for the season. This guy is terry Glenn redux...I hope Vrabel refers to Gonzalez as "she" at some point
Dugger got some LB snaps last week in the 2nd half. I'm curious to see what happens with that.I seriously think Dugger should start cutting into Spillane's snaps at LB.
He's physically competent, and is a guy who plays mostly on instinct and chasing the ball and making good tackles... something that apparently Spillane forgot how to do.
I would like to see him get some of that deep safety play. Not a fan of Hawkins. Amusing that each game, certain evaluators (sic) applaud his play, and others labeled his play poor.Dugger got some LB snaps last week in the 2nd half. I'm curious to see what happens with that.
I labeled his play more toward the 'poor' side. PFF's """grading""" is completely broken. I wouldn't say he was bad, necessarily, but he was definitely streaky. It was like watching Kyle Arrington play corner.I would like to see him get some of that deep safety play. Not a fan of Hawkins. Yes.. Marty makes the most sense.. he's fast enough to control the edge and has decent enough ball skills..I was thinking about Marte Mapu too he could seriously lock up that weak LB spot. His skill sets would be perfect for the position because he can cover some too.
