So, I'm in the office today, working hard, minding my own business. My boss is listening to some XM talk radio Wall Street Journal jibber jabber in the morning and it's loud enough that despite trying not to listen to it, I pick up stuff every once in a while.

So, they were talking about sports, and the hook into their next topic/discussion - which was about the recent steroid bust and its imprending effect on MLB - went something like this, "Landis, Belichick...stay tuned to find out who will be added to the list of cheaters."

I really wanted to vomit. Ignorant, uninformed people who know nothing about football are influencing the national media and forming the opinions of other relatively uninformed people. The general consensus nationally is that Bill Belichick is a cheater. It's not an ignorant or mean-spirited opinion by design, it's simply a lazy opinion, it's lazy and convienent to tag BB as a cheater without truly analyzing the situation or thinking rationally about it. I think even those that think the punishment was fair, even those that are truly disappointed in Belichick, would be hard-pressed to describe him as a "cheater". A rule-breaker, sure, arrogant/definat, whatever...but the fact that BB is now tossed in with cheaters like Bonds and others...I mean, WTF.

I feel the same way whenever I watch Fox News.

Wait a min...aren't they both owned by Rupert Murdoch now??

It's ridiculous but doesn't seem to be going away. The media is TERRIBLE at their job.

It is going away.

Just take a dramamine and watch the game.

I couldn't agree with you more. What pisses me off about this whole thing are the semantics of it. No one is upset that BB was stealing signals, they're upset about the video camera being on the sidelines. If the camera was in the coaches box, or on the field in another area, or in the stands, or on the friggin moon, this would not have been an issue. So if everyone tries to steal signals, and they all do it in a different manner, how is one way determined as "cheating" and another is not? They may have gone against an edict handed down by the NFL offices, but they didn't do something that no other team is doing. They just did it with their typical "in your face" mentality. It's all f-ed up if you ask me.

The best part of it though is that all of the talk about cheating and invalidating what the Pats have done over the past six years is really going to backfire on everyone...Did they really think that fueling their fire was a good idea? I love it...keep talking smack buttheads, because every week that Chris Collinsworth, or some shclep on an XM radio station makes an assinine comment about cheating is another week I put a check mark in the "Win" Column.

The best way to look at this, their disrespecting the Patriots. Which equals TACKLIN FUEL. Also, you should be happy Rodney's coming back with a HUGE disrespect chip on his shoulder.

I love what Bill Parcells said to Steve Young about the 49ers scripting 16 plays for a game, then shutting down the headphones. Since they've scripted the 1st 16 plays knowing they'd shutdown the headphones, they had an UNFAIR advangate over the opposing team. Steve was so confused he looked stupid. I now use that everytime people start talking how the Pats have created an impression. NO, the media and Pats haters have created an impression for the herd to follow. This works pretty well because no one likes the idea of being lead along like a fool.

Thank Goodness we could have the 3,500,000,000th thread on this topic....

Most the folks with that apply the "cheater" label have been influenced by other folks that have extrapolated that if we recording the signals called, that we knew imediately what the defense was, and could adjust our offense as needed, which of course isn't true. They have not thought out the process themselves so they continue to allow the opinion of other 'mediots' to be thier own opinion. Just once I would like to hear someone logically explain how this recording could be read, relayed to the coordinator, who picks the best possible play, and then sends it to TB while they were at the line before the communication was turned off. And that doesn't include that the defense does not get signals until the offense is already on the line. I mean really, this whole thing is more science fiction from the media than fact!

Thank Goodness we have posters around here who think they're hot shyt because they are OK with our team's image and reputation being permanently tarnished...

I'll move on and let this topic go when people stop slandering Belichick's name and legend. Belichick doesn't have the time, luxury or desire of defending himself, so somebody has to, and in this case, it needs to be the fans.

There are boatloads of threads on the topic. Instead of adding yet another one to the pile, place your harrowing experience on one of those already existing threads. And as for defending BB, feel free to go back and peruse my posts.

Why do you guys think there is a big conspiracy against the pats? Sounds kinda paranoid to me. ANYONE in the public spotlight is subject to scrutiny for LONG periods of time. You tell everybody else to drop it then as soon as you hear something on the radio you regurgitate the whole "everybody else does it" theme. Either drop it or dont get mad when opposing fans bring it up.

What are you the thread police? If the mods want to merge or close this, so be it, but if you don't like this thread, don't post in it. You're just bumping it up. Better yet, if you want to talk about something else, why don't you start a thread on something else, ie, the game this week or a breakdown of last week's.

My point here is that it was no conspiracy, it was just ignorance. This isn't Emmit Smith or Collingsworth or somebody within sports calling out BB. This is just some guy on some national news report who probably doesn't know jack about football, sign stealing, or anything, just lazily labelling BB a "cheater".

He has no agenda, he simply just doesn't know what he's talking about. And it's everywhere.

Actually all of this bores me...

NFL hates the Pats...they are cheaters. blah blah blah

Move along.

And my point is that if you really want it to go away then you should probably not make a thread for every single idiot who mentions the word "cheater". Do you really care what he thinks? Probably not.

Do I care what this guy thinks? No. But do I care that Bill Belichick will forever be seen by the general public as a cheater? Yes, I think we all do. That's what this thread is about. It's bigger than just the NFL v. the Pats. This is Belichick's legacy forever. And that just sucks.

Well OJ will forever be seen as a murderer and Michael Vick will always be portrayed as the animal killer. We are all human. But when you are a prominent figure you had better not mess up...or at least get caught. Boohoo BB's legacy is tainted. He still goes home to his mansion and has a wonderful life. Stop crying for him!

Of course the big difference here is that OJ did kill two people and that Michael Vick did kill dogs....

And I do think there are plenty of people here that are concerned with BB's legacy and the Patriots legacy. It's part of sports and I'm sure many fans are aware of that.

O.J. beat the rap, Belichick didn't. Belichick did, in fact, violate a game rule, according to the commissioner. While I've defended the 'interpretation' angle and it's clear that no 'in-game' edge was being gained, the simple fact is that the Commissioner didn't accept BB's argument.
