The Jets suck (merged)

Reading this article, you would think the Jets won three Super Bowls in a row:

'You can't stand the Jets,' and Rex Ryan sure likes it that way - USATODAY.com

I think Ryan is going to ruin Sanchez. The guy seems to have a fragile ego and when he struggles, the New York media and fans are going to come down hard on him. With everyone talking Super Bowl or bust, they are not going to be patient with a QB who has some raw talent, but has a ways to go before he will ever pull it together.

I actually feel a little bad for Sanchez. He is in a situation where he needs to be a Brady or Manning who were top notch QBs pretty much by year two in the NFL. He is not that type of QB. He is a QB who needs several years to develop like Eli Manning or Philip Rivers did. Like Manning, he is in the spotlight of NY. But at least Manning didn't have a trash talking head coach who has sold the teams fans on a Super Bowl victory before the QB is ready to deliver.

Wow! I know the show is edited and what we see is not always the way it happens, but the Jets seem to be a bunch of lacksidasical guys who feel that the Super Bowl is their birthrite. Jason Taylor doesn't travel with the team and consistently shows up late because his Massaratti GPS sucks. The defense eat McDonalds cheeseburgers on the field at the begining of practice. The offense seems to be playing keep away from the leadership role.

If this is a real indication of what is going on with the Jets, they don't have the mental toughness to compete for a Super Bowl. Looks like Taylor just came back for the money and isn't really committed to the Jets. The defense knows they are good and don't want to work for a ring. The offense is leaderless and clueless. Ironically, Tomlinson seems to be the only one who is trying in the preseason.

Tomlinson is the only one on the offense that has something to lose- the rest of his career.

If accurate, that sounds a lot like the Redskins, year after year...tons of talent, the promise of Super Bowl contention, but not much in the way of willingness to work for it. Taylor played on that team for a season too.

Yeah well, the Jets have to play someone in the offseason super bowl...

Seriously, the 'skins picked up Shanahan as a coach, McNabb as a QB, and the rest of my 2007 fantasy team at running back (except Lady Tom, of course, who is in NY.) And their fans aren't even talking like this any more. They're tired of guys playing fantasy football with the roster w/no results.

We've been in shopping-spree mode ourselves the last few years, but remember, the only certified stars we had in the SB years were Tom Brady and Corey Dillon. The Pats did it w/a lot of good talent, a couple of great talents, and a ****pot of good scheme and good chem.

The Pats eat humble pie when they screw up, no matter how big their name is. You really think the cheeseburger crew from hard knocks is getting raked over the coals when they screw up? You really think Sanchize has heard **** about his TD/INT ratio? Noooooooo, they're lifting NYC to new heights.

J-E-S-T JEST JEST JEST!

By game 5 or 6, this will be the "in joke" on the pregame show set... "remember how we were all predicting these guys to go all the way?" Hell, they couldn't go all the way with a whore they paid up front and a pocket full of rohypnol. Not that I would condone either. But they couldn't.

Well, in fairness, Rex Ryan is to busy orgasming over the fact that he picked a FB in the draft who is working out to really have time to discipline his team. Seriously, I know that Connors kid looks really, really good; but he is a God-damn fullback. Half the teams don't even have a FB on their roster. Ryan talks about the guy like he is going to be as impactful as a franchise QB and spends far too much time obsessing on him.

Maybe he should be obsessing over the fact that the guard he drafted in the second round and the RB he drafted in the third round are shaping up to be total busts and trying to correct that before that becomes a reality.

Thats how I always imagined BB running a practice...

C'mon, you know that isn't true. Everyone knows Belichick is a Burger King guy.

For those of us like Tom who can 't be bothered watching, Florio has his Thursday morning recap up:

1. Beyond the bluster, the Jets coaching staff revealed serious concerns about the team. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said the offense was lacking confidence. The quarterback position lacked vocal leadership. Multiple coaches bemoaned the lack of overall leadership on the team.

Hearing that being shared with the viewing public on TV and seeing it highlighted in print should do building their confidence a world of good...:ugh:

Rex has pretty much put it out there that they need to kick ass out of the gate to establish a fear factor that proves all his superbowl talk wasn't just bluster. When that doesn't happen the charade that the 2010 JETS have spoon fed the mediots will not only crumble, it will cause such consternation among a media made to look like the ultimate suckers for falling for this crap worse than Fireman Ed that they will turn on Rex and his charges like a pack of wounded animals... You could even hear it in Chucky's voice the other night as he picked them to win 10 or more games and the division...because if they don't there's gonna be some 'splainin' to do...

Rex Ryan to DeAngelo Hall: "That's why my brother got rid of your ass" | ProFootballTalk.com

A correction it was Gregg Rosenthal, but the points stand.

A few things about the article:

1.) Rosenthal forgot to point out in the Ryan/Hall exchange that Hall intercepted Sanchez a few plays later. Also, apparently Ryan didn't learn from his brother because Hall and Antonio Cromartie are basically the same player (soft and can't tackle and a gambler who can make great plays and gives up some big ones too).
2.) I think we see why the Pats didn't go after Jason Taylor this offseason. Taylor really looks like the veteran who is just playing to get a paycheck and has checked out mentally. No way would Belichick allow him to be consistently late, never mind let him have the superstar attitude where he is too good to travel with the team.
3.) I know the Jets fans spin is that it is just a TV show and they are just editing the crap out of the footage, but since week one scenes with the Jets getting shed in any kind of good light are getting farther and farther between.
4.) This looks like a team that has read too many press clippings about how great they are. Even with a limp fish like Herm Edwards or the ego headtrips on the Cowboys, we have never seen a more lacksidasical team on Hard Knocks as we are seeing with Jets. A player shows up late for practice and the head coach jokes with him and gives him a hug?!? Players bringing McDonalds on the field?!? Players talk back to coaches?!?
5.) I know the Jets fans spin is that it is the preseason and there are no gameplans and vanilla offenses(there are a lot of teams putting up far more points running vanilla offenses and no gameplans), but their offense looks worse than it was last year. The only player who has played well consistently on the o-line is Mangold. Sanchez is lost. They have a good running game, but I wonder if they will be as effective with the o-line and Greene's and LT's durability issues.
6.) Back to Sanchez. The more I see the guy, the more I think he isn't going to make it in this league. The guy seems to be very insecure and hides it with false bravado. Ryan is writing a lot of checks that Sanchez won't be able to cash.

OK. Well this one is Florio and while we seldom agree he hit the mark here. If we had a mediots suck thread it would be a tossup as to where this posted...

Silence finally is broken in Revis-Jets impasse, sort of | ProFootballTalk.com

Even grandmothers aren't safe from the media's overweaning need to keep finding ways to tell us something we don't really gain from their regurgitating, the player is holding out because he wants a new deal...

Thanks for correcting me. I always get that wrong. Look for the Burger king dude to be wearing a hoodie in his next commercial.

I really wonder about this as well. The one bright spots for the Jest so far has been LT. However, they guy hasn't had much in the tank for a couple of years now. You can tell he is putting maximum effort in right now, but I don't think he can sustain it for long. I don't think he will be much of a factor by week 8.

This may go down in history as one of the worst motivational speeches in NFL history.

YouTube - Rex Ryan Hard Knocks Speech

"Now lets go eat a goddamn snack." Great ending fatso.

...this clip in a nut shell sums up why the Jesters will be lucky to be .500 let alone in the playoffs this year.

Ryan was beating the drums making the team out to be big winners yet even he doesn't believe any of the crap he spews and neither did the team.

C'mon, you know that isn't true. Everyone knows Belichick is a Burger King guy.

He makes them wait until after practice before he gives it to them too, that way they practice harder since they have a reward waiting

Awww look. Sanchez singing a duet with Lance Bass...
