Gronk is the most complete TE in the league right now. I've seen Witten half-assing on his blocking, never see Gates block..not to mention he has been injured like forever now,not sure about Davis...he is pretty beast.

Gronk on the other hand is a big factor in the running game...he blows people up and finishes his blocks. Being a receiving threat that you have to gameplan against helps his case too.

I think it's a little early to call Gronk the best TE in the NFL, but he's certainly on his way. Probably the best young TE in the NFL along with Jimmy Graham.

Don't forget Moeaki, although he's out for the year. He's another very good young TE.

Comparing Welker to C Johnson is going to be tough consider they are physical opposites. Reminds me of the MVP voting in the NBA a few years back: Steve Nash versus Shaquille O'Neal.

I put Jimmy Graham and Moeaki ahead with the very underrated Lions TE Pettigrew in the mix too.

i know it was kind of tangential to the original point of this thread, but when someone said best WR in the NFL I also immediately thought "no, that's Calvin Johnson."

but thinking about it a little bit more, in this system with the type of Quarterback that Brady is, I don't think I'd take CJ for Welker straight up. Welker can just do more. I think you'd see a lot of amazing highlight reel grabs for CJ but Welker's quickness and football IQ really mesh better with Brady than I think anyone else in the NFL... Just as an aside, made me realize that even though CJ is more gifted to me, Welker's ability to adjust on the fly and play multiple positions make him more valuable than CJ would be in this offense IMO.

as to Gronk.....I do actually think that a year out he's going to be the best TE in the NFL. He's got all the physical attributes that Gates and Whitten have, and he's a monster on the line. He could actually wind up being a HOFer, we'll see what happens.

Well, it's kind of daunting to speak of "Best Receiver", when Megatron and our man Welker clearly have different roles, isn't it??

Just as The Gronk is ~ arguably ~ the best Flex End in the business, Aaron The Navigator is rapidly emerging as a premier Wing Back.

Megatron is clearly a Split End ~ primarily, of course ~ while Welker is a Slot End.

I see no issue calling them BOTH the best...at their respective positions.

I dont know as much as most of you about all of the comparing, but I'm happier than a pig in s**t about the entire offense this year. Gronkzilla, AHern, WW ,TFB, Branch, BJEG,..Etc. With TB at the helm, this is gonna be a good season. It's just magical to watch TB run this machine:eat1:It really is great to watch these two TE's grow

Davis has the edge in speed his blocking is not nearly as good as the Gronk.
When you talk about having every skillset a tight end needs at an elite level, it's no contest, Gronk is the COMPLETE package.
Scary thing is he keeps getting better week after week. This is gonna be a fun season to watch!!

Gronk does everythig that Pettigrew does, plus is much faster and a better receiver.

Even my 4-yr old daughter knows Gronk is the best. While I was re-watching parts of the game last night she started cheering for him "Gronk! Gronk! Gronky! Gronk!" My wife asked her who her favorite person was on the Patriots and she thought for a moment and said "Gronk! He's the best. I want to make him a love card." So she got out a piece of paper and drew herself, a big heart and a tall guy with a face mask (so the other people can't hit him) and "87" written on his chest (although it came out "887" at first).
