The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

It's not his job to make things easy for the media. .

The problem with this narrative is that it is blind to the reality that the modern NFL, and everyone who has a job in it, is part of a spiders web that make the whole football industry possible. Without the media, Bill doesn't have a job, because his job doesn't exist, and we never would have heard of him. The arrogance, the inaccuracy, the laziness, the narcissism that we sometimes see in the media doesn't change that fact. The interdependencies are structural, not circumstantial. Anyone working in football should be helping the media, and vice versa, just out of self interest.

Shula has more wins than tiny Bill. Those throwing out number of wins as some kind of flex should keep that in mind.
Like Bill, Shula was gifted Dan Marino and couldn’t win ONE ring with him? I’ll defend Belichick here in that at least he capitalized on his gift.

Bill's been in %20 of every Super Bowl ever played hows that for a flex.
Tbf the majority of Lombardi's titles were before the SB existed. At one point he won 100% of Super Bowls ever played. At Lombardi's peak he was also at 20% for all NFL championship games

When Joe Judge was coaching the Giants he said Brady was just an average quarterback at that point in his career, and had Belichick disagreed with that he would have given Judge the Charlie Casserly treatment and come out with a comment to the effect of " that's Joe Judge, he doesn't know what the **** he's talking about." Instead he said nothing. Why? Because he agreed with him.
In 2017 when all that drama between the two was going on, there were reports that members of the coaching staff were telling people

"give us any of the top 15 QBs, we could win the Super Bowl. The coaches don't view Tom as everyone else in football does. Kraft thinks Tom is the greatest gift, but the coaches don’t"

There were a lot of sycophants who were high on their own supply towards the end. A lot of them made a ton of money because Brady was there and they got to leapfrog to other high paying jobs. Besides McDaniels, very few will be in the NFL ever again now that they let the guy they didn't value go.

Let's be real. Patriots fans used to come up with excuses to cope with Bill's behavior being called out.

-"it's a disadvantage to give the media too much information"
-"the media asks stupid questions, they deserve it"

Somehow other coaches in the league who won Super Bowls didn't have the same issues with the media. Yes you are right, the NFL is an entertainment product. The media plays a role in it. A coach not playing ball is just doing it to be a prick. We only found it endearing because he was here when we were winning.

Not so good when you consider I've been to as many Super Bowls as Belichick has as a Head Coach without Tom Brady.

That's one of the things I loved about Parcells. He wouldn't give the media anything, but in most cases he would smile and charm them and usually come up with some sort of witty joke to give everyone a laugh.

This narrative is quite weird coming from the coaches because players such as Edelman has spoken about it on his podcast about hearing the noise that the Patriots were not very talented as a team.

The media also wasn't that high on the Pats overall talent in the early 2000's during the 1st dynasty.

Marino was a turnover machine. Not in same category as Brady.

Yep, I'm almost certain that certain was Joe Judge, and Belichick would have shot it down if he didn't agree. In truth he should have shot it down even if he agreed, if for no other reason than gratitude for everything he had done for Belichick and the franchise.

I was definitely guilty of all of it. I defended his drafts, I defended his attitude, and I basically defended him. Now I'm seeing things much more clearly. And while I won't knock his record and achievements and say they were all Brady, because he built the teams around Brady that helped win those titles, I do think I was wrong in a number of other respects.

I feel the same. Was drinking too much coolaid when we were winning and impulsively defended Belichick. Now that he's gone, it's easier to step away and think "hmm maybe some people who didn't like dealing with him had a point".

Lombardi never had a losing season as an NFL head coach with two different teams.
My edit: Lombardi is nothing without a Hall of Fame QB.

Lol that's some real hard evidence. You're so petty it's laughable.

So you think Shula is better than Bill or are you just trolling?

NFL championships aren't the same. They compare more to conference championships because of the size of the league.

And no Lombardi was never %20

Math is math. But it is dumb to think that BB is NOT the same sub .500 Head Coach now as he was before Brady.
