The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

So you changed your opinion and don't like him anymore. How am I putting words in your mouth.

"Not a big fan" is not equal to "dislike".

There are still things I like about him, just not as many as before.

If I wanted to use the word "dislike", I would use it. Or, for that matter, "hate".

Instead of using what I write you and others put words into my mouth because you feel forced to polarize the argument to try to score points.

It's a very crude and transparent tactic, one used by someone who can't contradict the actual things being said.

Got it, yet?

I'm not a mind reader context counts. You run around for months making joke after joke picking fights with guys who are big fans of his. Then you say "I'm a big fan of Bill's up till 2022 or so" and I'm supposed to assume you meant "I'm a big fan of Bill's up till 2022 or so until after where now I'm only just a little fan of his."

Sorry buddy people don't talk like that. If you wanted to say your a fan of his you had plenty of chances but all you could manage to say was you used to be a big fan. If I'm wrong then I guess you're a little fan who likes being an ahole to bigger fans for some reason. Congratulations.

I have defended Belichick for years and years, however the ******** being slung to make him perfect is too much for me to stomach. He’s the greatest coach of all time, and I believe it took Belichick, Brady, and a whole host of others to make those 6 Lombardi’s happen. But he’s not ****ing Saint Bill, breathing life into the dead, although that would explain Wozzy, saving babies from burning buildings while feeding and providing shelter to all in need of it. He’s seriously flawed in many respects, and treating his players like **** is just one example of it. He also did a very poor job with the team after Brady left, and he deserved to be fired when he was fired. I wish him well at UNC, but I’m not going to sit here and watch his devotees make **** up about him out of thin air.

That’s where it started for me, with the effort to make him Saint Bill.
I think the narrative, "Bill treated players like ****" needs some qualifying. Yes- he was a prick to play for. Every player who played for him will say, "Bill was a tough coach, borderline a-hole"...but they said the same thing about Lombardi, Landry, Noll, and Shula. What do they all have in common? The players respected and appreciated them. The list is long of players who don't like Bill, but the list is longer of the players who will say Bill made them better players and put them in a position to succeed.

In terms of negotiating with Bill. He played hardball. Kraft did. Agents did. His shrewd mgt of the cap helped put this team is a position to have great rosters to support Tom.

If posters want to bash Bill for post Tom era or drafts, I'll agree.

To bash Bill for being an a-hole to players? Who cares.

1. I'm talking about the 2000 Ravens. Flacco didn't even come into the league until 2005.
2. The 2000's Ravens only had like 2 players left over from Bill's tenure. It had nothing to do with him.

Holy **** you are so lost in the sauce you are confusing yourself
I thought the bs was over but Woozy has other ideas for this thread. I suppose I can jump back in now.

Bill's biggest loss from Cleveland was Ozzie Newsome. That guy had a great eye for talent.

Luckily for us, Brady fell into Bill's lap, Drew got hurt 2 games into the next season (thank God it wasn't 6) and Bill's hand was forced.

Look at the greatest coaches in pro football history at the start and end of their dynasty when they had to start over from scratch.

Now tell us how Bill is different from the greatest ever… he’s not.
We've been telling you repeatedly. Let me try again.

Bill Belichick had 8 losing seasons out of 11 without his top QB. No other HC comes close to that. The closest is Andy Reid with 3, but most have 1 or none.

Sure but that can backfire - and it did because Brady left town - the reason by his own words that he had enough of this - and won a Super Bowl elsewhere. Pats haven't won a playoff game since.
"Backfire" also needs qualifying.

Bill treated Tom the same way for 20 years. Yes, he had enough of Bill and Bill had enough of Tom. Tom is on record as stating that.

If Bill changed his ways and Tom went back to being 2007 "Tom" they could have continued to coexist.

Sorry buddy people don't talk like that.

Of course they do. For instance, people say they were big fans of their former partners, till things changed and now they aren't.

It's not like every person we meet we have to either love them or hate them for eternity.

There are shades of grey, not everything is black and white.

IMO to insist that's the way things are is an attempt to force people into taking extreme positions.

If you wanted to say your a fan of his you had plenty of chances but all you could manage to say was you used to be a big fan.

Yes, it's called being honest.

@RobertWeathers just wrote "If posters want to bash Bill for post Tom era or drafts, I'll agree.", are you gonna complain about that too?

If I'm wrong then I guess you're a little fan who likes being an ahole to bigger fans for some reason. Congratulations.

Another losing tactic is to just call people assholes when you can't refute their arguments...

Got it you like being a big Ahole and a little fan.

OK little fan. Whenever you want you can stop acting like an ahole and go back to being a little fan feel free.

More proof you have nothing but name calling to go with.

This whole thread is proof. You've posted over 100 times and more than half of them are you making fun of Bill and picking fights with "bootlickers" as you called us.

The problem should have been fixed by Kraft. But instead he made matters worse with his hit-piece after Bill was gone. Patriots fans deserve better.

Yes 2022 was when HC Bill lost me for good. Matt Patricia offensive coordinator was the end stage of BB’s arrogance putting himself ahead the team and their success.
This is why I believe it's possible that Bill's salary was tied into the overall cost and he made more by hiring coaches who didn't have to be paid.

I don't pay much attention to sports talk these days, but that was spot on.
1000% Curran is correct and right on!!! So glad BB is gone. Narcissistic and entitled. Yes he won 6 super bowls as head coach with the GOAT. He does NOT own the team and the owner can do whatever the hell he wants to do for the privilege of paying that nut job 20+ million per year for 10 years.
a little gratitude from BB instead of constant sniping could have repaired the relationship.

Since you just wrote "context counts", here is the full quote:

You and woozie seem to love tossing around labels such as h8r. Fine, but that means other people can feel justified in calling you boot licker, ball washer, ass kisser, simp, etc.

Regardless of what you think, I don't hate BB. I just think he lost his fastball then fell into a honey trap. He isn't the first, and he won't be the last. To me it should be viewed as a cautionary tale.

Note how I didn't call you a boot licker, but did say based on your tactics people can feel justified in doing so.

If I wanted to call you a boot licker or an ******* I would, but I didn't.

The reason to be here isn't to call each other names, but is to talk about how Bill lost his fastball and then fell into a honey trap.

It's right there in the sub-title: "HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.".

Clearly you avoid trying to discuss that because it's an argument you can't win, thus the name calling.

Curran is taking a harder line than I would. Curran's rant against Bill goes all the way back to 2017. I'm giving Bill the benefit of the doubt up till 2022, even though in hindsight those seasons were disappointing.

The Butler thing, the way things ended with Tom, etc ended up being mistakes in hindsight but I see how he can justify them. The Cam Newton Year, the Mac Jones rookie year I can see how he can justify these too.

To me the MP + JJ + his sons year is when it's clear he lost his fastball and was mailing it in. It wouldn't surprise me if the root cause was that he was more interested in chasing bunnies than in football.

That's the era where Curran's conclusion was really in play:

So, Bill making $25 plus million a year is mad now that he didn't get to treat an NFL franchise like his personal sandbox with no checks and no balances for the extent of his career until he got sick of coaching. To me that is the height of entitlement.

Bill really did act like a guy who thought the team that someone else owned was his personal sandbox, and that he was entitled to set up his sons as his successors, and that he was entitled to stay as long as he wanted to stay regardless of what the product on the field looked like.

It probably didn't dawn on him that he didn't have the juice he thought he did till Atlanta kicked him to the curb.

Maybe it still hasn't dawned on himself since he seems to be deluding himself that being the HC of UNC is a better gig than being a NFL head coach.

Again you act like I'm making things up then openly say the reason you are here "is to talk about how Bill lost his fastball and then fell into a honey trap." Apparently that's behavior consistent with being a little fan of someone.

I'm here to talk about one of my favorite sports figures of all time. I like to post nice things about him that I find on social. I'm not a big college football guy but I've tried to discuss a little about how the UNC off-season went and some of the cool mic'd up stuff they've done with him. And hopefully following UNC will get me more interested in college ball. I invite more people to come in here and talk actual football.

But unfortunately every other post is some ahole putting up a bunny picture or some other form of hate. So I spend most of my time defending him. Most of these guys like SB1 have owned up to being a Jets fan or XLIX owned up to being Wrong Borges. For some reason you insist on being known as the little fan.

That's what you think you are doing. What your actions show you are trying to do is ONLY talk about the positive aspects of Bill's late-period career on a thread whose sub-title says "HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc." and using crude tactics such as name calling to try to control the discussion to your liking.

To many of us it is interesting to discuss how such a legendary coach could lose his fastball, fall into a honey trap, not be able to find another NFL job, and end up being the over-paid coach of a mid-level CFB team whose staff is filled with relatives and cronies while being laughed at by a large part of the NFL media and fan base.

It turns out our heros are people too, and thus have flaws. There's a lot to be learned from that, instead of just pretending they are perfect.
