It's a wild and woolly draft year. The Patriots have plenty of needs, even if nobody quite agrees on what those needs are. And unlike last year, they also have plenty of picks in the top rounds. They could move up, down, side to side. So the draft may be complicated, but this contest is always simple:

The Patriots have 8 draft picks. Name 8 players you think they might choose. The most hits wins.

That's it. Choose any strategy you like: a straight 8-pick mock, a concentration of players at the points you expect the Pats to be picking, or just every single quarterback available. Then submit your your ballot to this thread, IN THIS FORMAT:

Justin Reid, S, Stanford

All parts of it, please, and spelling counts. If I search the thread for picks of Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and you typed Obgonnia Orokonkwo, you're out of luck.

FAQ

Q: "If on day one they trade down and add an extra selection, can I add an extra name to my list?"
A: No.

Q: "Do I get extra credit for hitting their top pick?"
A: No.

Q: "Isn't this a total crapshoot?"
A: Yes.

Q: "Isn't Obgonnia Orokonkwo really close enough?"
A: No.

In closing, I'll repeat my yearly offer: if the winner manages to hit 3+ picks I'll compose a victory ode in his or her honor.

I'll put down a placeholder for now. I've got one pick right the last two years so trying to hit 2 for the first time. I haven't really focused on anyone past round 3 this year so I'll crack a load of day 2 prospects down and hope for the best.

Lamar Jackson, QB
Duke Ejiofor, DE
Anthony Averett, CB
Brian O'Neil, OT
Rashaan Evans, LB
Ronnie Harrison, S
Frank Ragnow, G
Rasheem Green, DE

(For the first time ever, posted from my own account!)

Josh Sweat, DE, Florida State
Azeem Victor, LB, Washington
Hercules Mata'afa, LB, Washington State
Equanimeous St. Brown, WR, Notre Dame
Vita Vea, DT, Washington
Griffin Oakes, PK, Indiana
Byron Pringle, WR, Kansas State
Demarcus Christmas, DT, Florida State

OK, I believe I have one correct pick since 2003 and that was Joe Cardona, who I believe everyone had. So if you like any of my choices, you can guarantee that the Pats will not draft them.

Sony Michel, RB, Georgia- will make you say Dion who?
Leighton Vander Esh, LB, Boise St.-absolute need, either him or Evans
Lorenzo Carter, LB, Georgia-great talent, but seems to be slipping down, could be a steal
Riley Ferguson, QB, Memphis-all the QBs are a crap shoot, so why not him?
Trenton Thompson, DL, Georgia-another steal in the later rounds.
Brett Toth, OT. Army-NFL talent, with a military commitment, late 7th rd stash pick.
Equanimeous St. Brown, WR, Notre Dame- tall WR, I'm already petitioning the NFL for the Ichiro rule to let him have "Equanimeous" on the back of his jersey!
Arden Key, DE/OLB, LSU-another top round talent in a mid round pick.

I always appreciate your name-based approach, but I must take you to task:

You've violated your mother's rules by not using Vita Vea's full name: Tevita "Vita" Tuliakiono Tuipuloto Mosese Va'hae Faletau Vea. ;)

@patchick Can we get an official ruling on truncated names?

@ChrisR2223, Too many men on the field

(Chris, I'm going to take your first 8, which means you picked 1 DB and 7 quarterbacks.)

Luke Falk - QB
Kolton Miller - T
Rashaan Evans - LB
Mike Gesicki - TE
Timon Parris - G/T
J.T. Thomas - CB
Tony Brown - CB
Ade Aruna - DT/DE

My picks are:

M. Rudolph - QB
J.Reid -S
D. Leonard - LB
M. Gesicki - TE
B. O'Neill - OT
J. Holmes - DE
D. Dawson - CB
A. Miller - WR

QB Mike White WKU
LB Lorenzo Carter UGA
DL Kentavius Street NcST
OL Connor Williams UT
OL David Bright Stanfd
LB Fred Warner BYU
RB Royce Freeman Ore
CB Avonte Maddox Pitt

I don't think Vander Esch makes it to the Pats first pick otherwise he'd be on this list. I also edited this because Ian Thomas is a binkie, eliminating him from being picked by the pats, and Maddox sounds like a target.
