With these Players' Tribune articles, I always wonder how much is actually written by the given "author". My basic assumption is that they write a rough draft and have more linguistically-adept people edit and reconstruct their pieces.

This is basically the procedure with any article written by a non-journalist. The author may not even write a rough draft, but just provide an interview to the writer. (I do this for a living).
