The 2017 Mock Draft Thread

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, the Pats trade JG to Cleveland for their first. Won't that likely pull that pick far enough down that it's no longer in range to get a #1 OT?

Imho, no.

Cleveland would be headed in right direction but would still be a 4-5 win team next year

Chad Reuter on NFL.com has a 3 round mock up. Has us taking:

#32 Zach Cunningham ILB
#64 Joe Mixon RB
#96 Garrett Sickels DE

Personally I'd be happy with the first two picks, despite the obvious Mixon baggage. I know next to nothing about Sickels though.

I'll keep this strictly to on field stuff.

Cunningham has a worrisome trend to overrun plays and miss tackles. Good talent situationally, but I'd prefer to go in a different direction. Just my own preference. For some reason I just don't get too excited watching him.

Mixon is electric with the ball in his hands. Incredible pass catcher. Effortless runner. If he were squeaky clean, would probably challenge Cook / Fournette for top back taken.

Sickles is intriguing. Better pass rusher than I expected. Thought he should go back to school, but he's got talent and could develop nicely. For the 3rd round I wouldn't complain too much, but I think he lacks strength/bulk and can be moved in the run game.

And Daniel Jeremiah has us taking Christian McCaffery in his one round mock

Depending on how mccaffrey runs, I would be all in on him as a patriot, but I do not have a first round grade on him.

That being said, I can easily see bb trading #32 and dropping back a half dozen picks and taking mccaffrey there. Plus we pick up an extra third.

2nd round - mccafrey standford rb
2nd round - Anderson Alabama lb
3rd round - Adams auburn dt
3rd round - hall Texas a&m de
4rh round - elder Miami CB

Assuming we trade JAG

#1A - Taco Carlson - DE - The last time BB went so hig for a DE was for Jones. Carlson to me has a higher ceiling.
#1B Sidney Jones - CB - He can immediately be our #2 CB when Ryan leaves.
#2 Anthony Walker - LB - I think when you look at his 2015 season you see something closer to the player you will get. He was a monster that year. This year for various reasons he was not as good.
#3 Jake Butt - TE

Mel Kiper has us taking OJ Howard in his latest mock. I'd be absolutely fine with that.

OJ and Engram would be the perfect double dip.

I believe both are impact NFL players this year. If we resigned Bennett I'd be ok w/ trading Gronk and having those 3 plus an extra blocker or T.

Somewhat OT but I was going back n forth w/ someone about landing spots and pairings.

Engram and Landry would own the middle of the field in Miami. Parker and Stills outside.

Don't want Mixon and Zeke together in Dallas. Add OJ/Njoku pairing w/ Witten.

Draft Wire in their latest mock draft has us taking:
32. Jabrill Peppers, Safety, MICH
64. Curtis Samuel, RB/WR, OSU
96.Julie'n Davenport, OT, Bucknell

I don't like this at all. At 32. players like Taco Charlton, Tredavious White, O.J Howard and Carl Lawson would have been there.

OJ and Taco have a great chance to go top 20 imo.

Lawson ive seen all over but it just takes one team. Same w/ White.

I will pray for your soul.

Gronk is a HOF. Best ever WHEN healthy.

I'm not just talking about trading him w/out a plan.

If we got OJ and Engran to pair w/ Bennett that would be an embarrassment of riches.

OJ Howard will tear up this league next year.

He might well do. But we heard the same about Austin Sefarian Jenkins, Eric Ebron, Kyle Rudolph etc. Trading Gronk for someone with potential, who, at the very best still won't be as good as Gronk, is not a sound plan in my opinion, and is bordering on ludicrous.

Anyway. On the TE theme, one of the worst draft gurus this side of Kiper, Bucky Brooks, has us taking David Njoku

First full mock of the year. Also I will do it only with the picks i believe we have without a Jimmy G trade so pretty by the book mock

#32 - Demarcus Walker - DE - He has fallen a bit and I don't know why. I think he is clearly a first round talent and the 4th best DE on my board as of now behind on Carlton, Garrett and Barnett. He has a complete game. Stop the run and rush the passer. More than just a pass rush specialist who i think are usually overrated unless you are that particular rare specimen.

#64 Fish Smithson - S - Plays a mix of FS and SS. He likes to hit people but also knows when to attack the ball and caused a lot of turnovers. He played on a bad team so no one knows how good he is for sure but he looks like a steal. This will seem like a reach at the time if we take him but BB likes to do these things with safeties and this guy would only be a 1-2 round reach but i think like Harmon he plays up to the pick.

#96 Chidobe Awuzie - CB - IMO this guy is slipping big time. IDK why he is not getting more hype. I know a ton of other great CBs are in the draft but he has it all. Kind of a smaller school guy but played top schools a few times too. I think he rises up board but for now ill put him here.

4th CLE - Jake Butt - TE - Nothing surprising here. Stash a promising TE.

4th SEA - (I think we trade this pick but idk with who for now i will pick) Vincent Talyor - DT - Another small school guy. He is somewhere between a big body DT and a pass rush DT at 310 6'3 and usually I am not a fan of those guys but he seems to do both well. He penetrates very well for a man his size and his burst is pretty legit. The Pats need another DT in the pipe line for when Branch retires be it this or the next few years. I think he fits a nice tweener role we are missing for a big but not too big DT.

5th DEN - Austin Golson - OL - He has played every spot but probably fits best as a center. Interesting prospect to take a chance on. Could be a good back up OT.

7th DET - James Connor - RB - Big guy and a lot like Blount. Dealt with a lot of stuff (cancer and neck injury) but had a pretty good year this year but still may slip. If so lets take a chance on this 6'2 250lb RB.

Exactly, you arent going to be able to replace Gronk, I loved Jace Amaro but he hasnt done anything in Jersey.

I can only speak for myself and can honestly say none of those guys were close to Howard as a prospect, esp from a blocking pov.

Hopefully whoever was fooled learned from their mistakes.

Listening to some it seems we shouldn't bother with the position until theres a freak clearly better than Gronk?

But you or someone else loving Amaro doesn't change anything except for the fact that YOU liked him?

ASJ and Amaro both had big character flaws and both were awful blockers.

Very different players.

Also if Kyle Rudolph was on the Pats for the last 5-6 years he'd have 40+ TD's and a lot highly regarded.

Completely agree. I didn't like any of those guys. Howard is a legit top 16 type of talent. Exceptional blocker, and effortless routes to threaten downfield. Very talented, multi-dimensional player. Totally different level from the other players listed.

Fish smithson is more an udfa type isnt he? How could he be a steal in the 2nd round? I guess if he turns into ed reed.

Anyway, i'll assume they are trading jg and getting a bevy of picks.

1. Hassan reddick
2. Demarcus walker de
3. Samaje perrine rb
3. Evan engram te
3. Jordan 'lazy' leggett te
3. Jaleel johnson dt
5. Marquez white cb
6. Harvey langi lb
6. Kyle fuller c
