I don't have a problem with you, or anyone, liking a player. I have a problem with people using combine results as if they're dispositive. I don't really give a damn that Clowney did 21 reps. I care that he showed enough strength for the position. In fact, I'd rather have a guy who needs to put in a little work than having a guy like Gholston, who was maxed out coming out of college. I also don't care if a guy runs a 4.35 or a 4.4 in his underwear, after track training for months. That sort of difference doesn't mean much. In fact, they were talking about this, in a way, on NFLN today. They noted that the last 17 players to run in the 3.3's have only one who had a 1,000 yard season, and that one is Mike Wallace.
I look at the combine for numbers and patterns which are striking (supposed speed guy who only runs a 4.6, Dontari Poe killing it, etc...). Does that mean I don't love seeing a guy run a 4.3 if he's someone I had interest in? Hell, no. Does it mean that I won't sometimes talk about 'needing' my speed guys to run a certain number? No (But I'll smarten up about that over time, hopefully before that year's draft)*.
I want my fast guys to be fast, my strong guys to be strong, my agile guys to be agile, and the like. The specifics get far too overhyped.
*Having said that, give me Dri Archer, who must have run with a rocket strapped to his ass in order to run a 4.26.
