Tetairoa McMillan runs a 4.48-4.55 at Pro Day

His forty was not “stand out,” that’s not fast, it’s not slow… it’s pretty average for the position group. The fact he didn’t work out any other measurables wasn’t ideal.

You take blue chip athletes in the first round or you trade back. If there is no blue chip WR because Hunter is off the board, you take another position or trade back. Don’t reach…. most important don’t be what you are now or what Wolf was last year after he drafted Maye… obsessed with shiny hood ornaments.
I hope you’re not referring to Ja’Lynn Polk as a “shiny gold ornament”

No sane person could watch college tape of Polk and come away impressed.

Wide receiver was the correct pick. Ladd McConkey.

From the responses, it seems like most of the board doesn't like this guy.

Is it fair to look at the matchup when he was a freshman? Maybe not. But being a rookie in the NFL isn't that much different when you look at the jump in competition. Gonzo was not even remotely challenged. Tet will probably be productive in the NFL as a big slot who's pretty good at getting into zones and using leverage to get open and earn yards after the catch. I think he's like a supersized version of Bourne, and should end up with multiple thousand yard seasons if he stays healthy.

But after watching all of his targets over the last couple years thanks to compilation videos -- which are admittedly not all 22 film -- I don't see him as an X receiver at all. I'm not opposed to drafting him with a big trade down. I just think we would still need to fill the position of a physical outside receiver and get open one-on-one or against press.

There's an awful lot of misconception in this thread about size and speed. I don't know why people are acting like he's significantly taller and longer than Harry (who had his own issues and is not that comparable of a player, but people keep mentioning them in the same posts). Tet is definitely smoother and has a better feel for getting open. I think Harry was a little more impressive against press, and his physicality stood out in college. I think he busted because of mental and emotional reasons, not physical, because his testing numbers were acceptable to excellent across the board.

Harry measured in at 6027, Tet at 6041. Just over an inch in height difference. Harry was 12 pounds heftier (225) at his pro day vs Tet who came in at 213. Harry had 33" arms vs 31.5" for Tet. Wingspan is also slightly in Harry's favor: 78 1/4 to 77 7/8. Tet does have bigger hands (10" to 9.5" ), though both made exceptional one-handed catches in college.

Their stats are also similar (same number of receptions and games played), but Tet has an edge in yards per target and found the end zone a little more often. He returned 2 punts for 11 total yards, vs Harry averaged more than that per return and also added a punt return touchdown.

EDIT: Stats formatting didn't copy properly. Let me just add the links instead:

Unless my math is wrong, that seems like almost a 2” height difference. I’d also be willing to wager T-Mac had a considerably longer wingspan but I have not checked.

You just reaffirmed what I said, he is probably going top ten or near there.

It is about fear of competition and possibly sinking his draft stock. Just as some workout warriors can improve their draft position at the combine and pro days, a prospect can also hurt his draft stock. If Tet went out there and ran poor agility drills. put up a weak bench and couldn’t jump high… he could push himself out of the first round.

This isn’t about me not liking Tet, it’s about me not liking his level of compete or his top speed. We have seen endless examples of college players who produce at a high level only to fail as pros. This is the entire reason for the combine and pro days. To measure these guys against their peers.

Like I said, I haven’t finished evaluating this draft class, but I have to assume there are some WR’s as good or better than Tet who will go in the next few rounds… no need to reach.

I think this conversation is more about your infatuation with said player and the WR position. I rank my players prior to the draft, but don’t get emotionally attached to them.
You skipped answering if you thought Maye is chicken for not throwing last year?

This has nothing to do with a WR infatuation because that's not me. This is about you not liking Tet which is fine but then twisting things to fit your preference.

The thing is I dropped Campbell off my wish list because of his arms but I would be thrilled if come Draft day Vrabel thinks his tape eliminates that concern and selects him. I really would prefer to fill LT before WR and protect Maye. It's just that based on what I've read I'm not prepared to just ignore the arms because the data seems pretty overwhelming.

Teams will reach for QB’s, that’s a universal truth.

You grade prospects based on every other rookie prospect in history, or at least the last couple decades. You don’t take a B- wide receiver in the first round simply because it’s your biggest need. There will always be an A+ player sitting there at #4 even if it’s at a lesser position of need.

If you can’t trade back, then take the best player available. Is Tet that? Having barely evaluated this class, I’d say no.
I’m with you most of the time on it being a team game not a god QB, and Oline over shiny hood ornaments but judging a draft based on every other rookie in history is a crazy take. You can only draft who is available and just because Campbell would have been the 4th OT taken last year doesn’t change he is the consensus #1 this year. You admit to having not evaluated the class yet so listen to those who have. Every single player likely to be available at #4 has a question mark, a flaw, a potential reason they will bust. There are exactly 2 “A+” players and a QB that’s going to be drafted top 5 on hopes, prayers, and sadly no one better.

That leaves the Patriots in the unenviable position of getting first choice in a tier of players that are all equally questionable. Some don’t care about Tet’s lack of speed and consistent production, others like myself call it a deal breaker and wouldn’t draft him in the top 12. For some 4 years of elite production against the best the country offers outweighs Campbell’s holy crap historic small wingspan. Why draft an 8/10 RB when there are about (20) 7/10 RBs further down in the draft? Graham has some great stats and athletic ability but came in 30 lbs underweight, plus played next to a behemoth monster so how good will he be really? My personal favorite, after having watched tape, is a 20 year old dancing bear with feet that made me say wow multiple times, not to mention several nasty pancake blocks. Problem is Membou has only ever played RT. Can he make the switch? 20 is pretty young so that’s a gamble I am willing to take but plenty of players are one side only, wiping your ass with your left hand and all that.

Point is saying “there is always an A+ player at #4, just maybe not at a position of need” is not true this year. The Patriots just have first choice in a tier of question marks.

Graham didn’t workout, he’s an OLB with a bum foot… I don’t want him and the position is not a need.

Campbell is a blue chip athlete, his measurables were superb. His arm length isn’t ideal for the tackle position but he’s still a blue chip athlete. I don’t necessarily want him because I want them to take a blue chip player at a position of need and I don’t know if he’s better than the next few tackles behind him.

Fans hear somebody say “weak draft” then parrot the same thing over and over… there are always great players to be found.

Honest to god, if the Patriots DO draft at 4...and decide to go offense and not Campbell...

Tyler Warren. He's a beast. I could see a three TE set-up, given the quality already there with Hooper and Henry.

Tet looks like a maybe to me. Hunter is great, but I think he's looking for CB and the Pats don't need that.

The best players in this draft as sure things, to me, in no particular order:

Hunter
Graham
Warren
Carter

Other than those guys, for the Pats, my favorite would be Campbell. He's about as scrappy as they come.

I actually like the confidence/excitement.

But what I find interesting is the mocking at the end saying "and I'm sliding"

If he's aware he slid does that indicate we might already be looking elsewhere?
lets hope

we can find plenty of WR at 6'4 who are faster and are actually doing agility drills to show

Unless my math is wrong, that seems like almost a 2” height difference. I’d also be willing to wager T-Mac had a considerably longer wingspan but I have not checked.

1 inch and 1/4. It's not that big a difference. And I posted the wingspan measurements above; you can verify them or not, but Harry had more reach. Regardless, I don't think Tet is the right choice unless we also have plans to bring in an actual outside receiver. I do like Tet though as an upgrade to Bourne.
