Is it fair to look at the matchup when he was a freshman? Maybe not. But being a rookie in the NFL isn't that much different when you look at the jump in competition. Gonzo was not even remotely challenged. Tet will probably be productive in the NFL as a big slot who's pretty good at getting into zones and using leverage to get open and earn yards after the catch. I think he's like a supersized version of Bourne, and should end up with multiple thousand yard seasons if he stays healthy.
But after watching all of his targets over the last couple years thanks to compilation videos -- which are admittedly not all 22 film -- I don't see him as an X receiver at all. I'm not opposed to drafting him with a big trade down. I just think we would still need to fill the position of a physical outside receiver and get open one-on-one or against press.
There's an awful lot of misconception in this thread about size and speed. I don't know why people are acting like he's significantly taller and longer than Harry (who had his own issues and is not that comparable of a player, but people keep mentioning them in the same posts). Tet is definitely smoother and has a better feel for getting open. I think Harry was a little more impressive against press, and his physicality stood out in college. I think he busted because of mental and emotional reasons, not physical, because his testing numbers were acceptable to excellent across the board.
Harry measured in at 6027, Tet at 6041. Just over an inch in height difference. Harry was 12 pounds heftier (225) at his pro day vs Tet who came in at 213. Harry had 33" arms vs 31.5" for Tet. Wingspan is also slightly in Harry's favor: 78 1/4 to 77 7/8. Tet does have bigger hands (10" to 9.5" ), though both made exceptional one-handed catches in college.
Their stats are also similar (same number of receptions and games played), but Tet has an edge in yards per target and found the end zone a little more often. He returned 2 punts for 11 total yards, vs Harry averaged more than that per return and also added a punt return touchdown.
