Path to the Draft tonight mentioned how some teams don't have Thomas on their board as a QB but as a TE. He is athletic enough and played it before. I think we could take a chance on him.
Manx is a big Logan Thomas guy and I think he would be perfect as a double dip TE prospect in the later rounds. He's got the size, athleticism and toughness you want and he just looks the part. The biggest problem for me is value and unfortunately I think other teams will value him much more highly than me. Late 5th/6th round I would be comfortable taking him as a conversion project but I have the feeling some team is going to fall in love with his arm and take him in the 3rd or 4th. As a QB prospect I wan't absolutely no part of him and I have probably been his biggest detractor as a QB on this board.
Personally I wouldn't want any of these TE's at 29 (assuming Ebron is gone) but would be happy with any of ASJ, Niklas or Amaro (who I'm not a huge fan of) at 62. DT in the 1st (or early 2nd with a modest trade down), TE in the 2nd and trade up for a C in the 3rd would be my ideal scenario. I don't really love any of the later options at TE although I wouldn't mind CJF in the 3rd.
I still fail to understand why everyone is so Ga Ga over a too short, too light DT. He will be run over in the run game. The 6th round cut and pickup, Chris Jones out weighs him by 30 #s, and 2 " in height. For every sack Donald got in college last season, Chris got in the tougher NFL, last season.
IMHO, the Defensive linemen available suck in this draft. They are all either injured, un- motivated, or too tiny. Draft some of them NEXT year.
This is the year to FINISH rebuilding the Offense, particularly the O-line. You can and must protect Brady, and you can also add depth at TE & WR. Third in scoring was fine but Brady getting sacked 40 times was terrible.
The D-line consists of Wilfork, Kelly, Chandler Jones and Ninkovich with Chris Jones, Joe Vellano, Michael Buchanon, Armond Armstead, Sealver Siliga, and Jake Bequette as their back-ups. Wilfork, Kelly and Armstead are coming off some pretty serious injuries and it's unknown just what they will be able to produce. So that leaves Chris Jones (who is best as a situational interior pass rusher), Sealver Siliga (who should be Wilfork's understudy), Buchanon (who didn't have the stamina to go the whole season) and Bequette (the enigma). OH, Wilfork will be 33 by the end of the season, Kelly will be 34 by the end of the season, and Ninkovich will be 31 at the season. Yet, your proposition is that the Pats do nothing?Just how much more do you want to invest, to add to the Defense? You have three potential Probowlers on the DL, three more potential ones at LB, and three in the secondary. The D 3rd down conversion rate improved, and the sacks jumped. The D produced a Top Ten in Points Allowed. All they really need is health and experience playing together, to really excel.
Are there any players that you model yourself after?
I'd say Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski. A little bit of Kellen Winslow, senior not junior.
LMAO.
If all the elite defenders are off the board I'm good with ASJ at 29 or maybe after a slight trade down into the 33-36 range.
I would be okay with a tradedown into the 30s to select ASJ and accumulate an additional pick in the middle rounds, as long as we addressed the trenches in the next couple of rounds. I really want one of the top 5 TEs, so if we have to take one in the first, so be it I suppose.
