System QB Tom Brady will be roasted live on Netflix

I definitely preferred the football humor to the more personal stuff, but being a Patriots fan, I felt that was more meant for us anyway.

Sally Jenkins from the Washington Post was definitely not a fan of the roast, however.

That's OK. I'm not a big fan of Sally Jenkins or the WP.
Couldn't read the article unless I subscribe. If comes to getting a subscription to the WP or the Globe, or getting my fingers slammed in a drawer, I'll take the drawer.

Agree.

With that group of comics Orchids of Kraft would have been destroyed and it would have been hilarious.

"The Greatest Trick The Devil (or NFL owner) Ever Pulled Was Convincing The World He Did Not Exist (or get a rub 'n tug)."

Was really funny overall but calling a straight guy gay over and over isn't funny or roasting to me. It's like Keven Hart saying "**** you, Tom" 30 times. It's just tiresome and not funny. Loved to see all those guys together dishing out and reacting to most of this stuff though.

I finished it last night. Overall, I thought it was funny, not sure it plays well in Indianapolis, Philly or NY tho. Of the players, Drew and Jules were the best, but Drew was far ahead of Jules. Gronk was typical Gronk. The funniest thing he said all night was that he eff'd the Rhino. Bill was very good, clearly the Kraft thing is an issue. They won't be going fishing anytime soon.

I really thought the Kraft joke by Ross and the subsequent "knock that **** off" by Tom was all show. I think Ross and Tom worked it out in advance so it was addressed early in the night why there weren't more Orchid Day Spa jokes. Further, all the noise now is just spin to keep people interested. "Did they or didn't they?" I imagine Ross saying that they have to address it and then having Brady get up and say what he said, which explains why there's no more * jokes the rest of the night.

If there is one thing I would get on my soapbox on (but won't) it would be the Gisele jokes.

None of us know what their current relationship is (amicable/volatile) and how their kids are handling it (are they in therapy etc) but I don't think it was helpful from a co-parenting and relationship standpoint for the father to essentially promoting the roasting of his children's mother.

With that said it's not like his kids haven't heard the media or classmates bashing their parents before.

I think Tom knew his kids would be OK and could handle it....I hope.

I also think he knew exactly how Gis and Bridge would react and obviously didn't give two ****s.

I look at it as he had to sign off on all of it, at the very least, the outline of it.

I thought the Hernandez stuff was a little over the top, but that's just me. I guess I have gotten accustomed to them having it swept under the rug and pretty much ignored for the last number of years.

they also didn't tell anyone kraft was going to be there until the last minute, for the same reason

it was 100% planned

Yea. People forget someone (multiple?) lost their life to that scumbag. Not a joking matter but admittingly there were a few that were funny..

Correct. My wife didn't like Nikki, while I couldn't stop laughing.
I thought she was the absolute best of the night but I also have somewhat of a crude sense of humor. And I also was a little ehhhh on the Giselle jokes after awhile, he’s the one being roasted and it felt like she was the butt of a lot of it., I get he doesn’t care how she feels but she has two roles in his life, one as his ex and two as the mother of his kids. It just seems he sort of forgot about the second one.

I fully admit many of my female friends would not have enjoyed a single second of this (because they aren’t football fans either).

I took a look so you didn't have to!

It opened for me without being a subscriber, which ain't ever gonna happen. Big Media still hasn't figured out that subscriber model is a big loser for them.

The article reads like what you would expect from an outfit whose target audience is post-menopausal society ladies, and wannabes.

Her main complaint was that the event wasn't witty and clever enough for her tastes.

Well, duh, Sally. If that's what you want, go watch Pride and Prejudice again for the millionth time instead of the roast of a celebrity athlete.

That's like complaining that the articles in the porn mag were poorly written.

At least she got to demonstrate her cleverness and wit by using "bro" as a derogatory term.

Par for the (unshaven) course, IMO.

A lot of women don't like roasts, the jokes I cried over, my wife didn't like.

It's been evident to me since childhood that most males find crude humor funny, most females don't.

tom looked uncomfortable all night, and he's had WAYYYY too much work done
<snip> ......and he's had way to much work done on his face

Yeah, that's been obvious to me for years now. Lord knows what they did to his cheekbones, but he looks like a squirrel now. Also, the man can barely make facial gestures any more. He's got an all-or-nothing smile, and not much else.

And, on top of all that, IMO it isn't aging well. Looks like he did the work to keep the missus happy but now that he's divorced he isn't keeping on top of it so he has areas where he's tight and other areas where he's loose.

jules was great......glazier was good, BB did fine all things considered......randy moss is just a good guy, the moment between BB & Rodney was worth suffering through a lot of lousy moments

I'm happy it was on Netflix where they could run as long as they wanted, because even the weaker moments were worth seeing once just to see where they were going.

IMO BB struggled through the Matt Light content, the best bit was the "so much ****" punch line at the end.

If the thing was edited, I bet a bunch of stuff would have ended up on the cutting room floor.

A friend who doesn't have Netflix came by and I showed him the funnier bits, but fast-forwarded through a lot of stuff I thought was weak.

Overall a decent editor could get it down to an hour and a half instead of three hours without trying too hard, and even an hour if necessary.

The roast was long but it was really funny.

I could tell that BB and Kraft are FAR from burying the hatchet. That was probably the most forced toast of all time.

Of course Gronk didn't even drink the shot and spiked the glass at the end of his routine! OOF Clean up on aisle 6!

I loved the crypto joke Nikki Glaser made, "Even Gronk know that not real money!"

Drew Bledsoe, Gronk, and Edelman were actually pretty funny for players trying standup comedy for the first time.

As expected Manning hit with a few Eli owned you in the Superbowl type jokes.

TB12 roasted BB hard with his, 'do you ask the race car driver the name of the guy who gassed up his car' joke at the end.

I feel like the refreshing thing about the roast is that people were finally allowed to make jokes and not be cancelled for it.

It feels like this country has lost its sense of humor.

I think Brady was actually pretty stung by this roast. Heard he had to go straight home after the event and didn't go to the after party.

It's hard to blame him, the constant digs about the divorce and Giselle probably still cut pretty deep. That was his family for 13+ years.

Oh and Kraft was obviously protected from the massage jokes as soon as the first one was made Brady told the guy don't say that *bleep * again and the topic was avoided.

All in all it was great to see all the Patriots who helped build the Dynasty gathered together in the same building again.

There were a lot of funny jokes so I'd have to say this is one of the best events Netflix has done for a while and people will be talking about it and remember it for a while to come.

The FU Toms were excessive a few of them were well placed and funny but I also think they set up Brady to return the favor with a couple of FU Kevins which were both pretty funny. I'd like to think there was some intent behind this. If it was intentional then extra props to Brady on the call back comebacks.

I heard some one say the Comedy Central roasts used to be like 5 hours long and edited down to an hour of 2 before airing.

The shoe kinda fits, tho... There's (some) truth in jest, no?

Even if she is telling the truth about not "cheating", that feels like something of a technicality when you take up with someone that was in the inner circle shortly after the relationship ends. Far better to move on to someone new, IMO.

In an article I linked with her complaints about the roast she is quoted as saying that getting blamed for cheating is common when relationships end, but if she knows that is the case then why did she play right into it? Maybe she too doesn't give a ****?

From Tom's point of view, is it better to blow smoke up the kids's bums and project that he's cool with it when if nothing else he feels she deserves to feel some heat?

Maybe he felt this is a way to get all that stuff out in the open without him being the one delivering the messages, which is the best rationalization I can come up with.

Otherwise, yeah, it's difficult to rationalize it from the parenting point of view.

I wrote before the roast that it would not seem authentic to roast Tom and make Gisele off limits.

Yet I really did expect that he would make her off-limits "for the kid's sake" and accept the hit to authenticity.

Maybe not 100% off limits (divorce / failed marriage jokes OK, adultery not OK), but definitely not the no-holds-barred result we got instead.

There was more than enough content to have a roast without the hard-core Gisele jokes, but again it would take a hit to authenticity if she got a full pass.

Given how the world works these days I think most people would understand the need for some self-editing, but maybe the roasters would say nah we're out?

With that said it's not like his kids haven't heard the media or classmates bashing their parents before.

?

Probably heard mommy and daddy bash each other live and in the flesh too, if what some of the gossip papers wrote is true.

I think Tom knew his kids would be OK and could handle it....I hope.

Daughter is 11 so I don't think that's realistic, that's 5th/6th grade in school.

I know they grow up quick these days, but that's a lot of content for an 11 year old to process.

I also think he knew exactly how Gis and Bridge would react and obviously didn't give two ****s.

?

PS: Tom's sisters took some big-time shots as well. Seems Toamy didn't really think this one through very well, no?
