Patriots Injury News Strange to IR

Good LTs are almost as rare as good QBs these days.
I don't think this comment is true.

You can't find more than 3 good QBs in the NFL who were taken after the first round.

They just hardly exist.

But there are a lot of LTs, I can name several off the top of my head. And usually those first round LTs pan out.

Gotta take a top QB in the early 1st. Im not saying you shouldn't trade down, but you have to end up with Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye.

LTs like Graham Barton, Patrick Paul, Jordan Morgan, Troy Fautanu, Kingsley Sumataia, Tyler Guyton, are all slated to go between the end of the first to the middle of the 2nd round. That's 6 guys.

That 2022 draft class really is something.

Oh, get a real OL coach if Adrian Klemm is still suffering from that mystery illness.

Cole Popovich won’t be getting any mystery illness. That I can almost guarantee.
Cole Popovich the Unvaxxed?

you’re right. There will be no mystery.

Still no reason to draft someone you could get in the 4th round in the 1st when you have many needs and can still get the guy.

Reaching for strange/Thornton will never make sense to me.
That’s a different story altogether. He shouldn’t have been taken in that spot, we can all agree with that; personally I would have taken Trent McDuffie, and would have salivated over him and Gonzalez playing CB here for the next 4 years.

Be that as it may, that’s not Strange’s fault, and we shouldn’t throw the baby out with the bath water. He looks like a very capable run blocker when healthy. Maybe not Shaq Mason level, but he seems to have the same strengths and weaknesses as Mason had. If he can fully recover and then stay healthy, he looks like he can be part of the solution going forward even if he was very over drafted.

You seriously need to stop spewing this BS. Strange was going to be gone to either the Buccaneers, Seahawks, Titans, or Vikings at the top of the 2nd round. This came out during the draft. It destroys the whole BS storyline that drunkard McVeigh tried to push..

The same drunkard who is getting his HOF QB killed due to not investing in the OL. If you ask me it looks like Strange was McVay and Snead’s binkie and we got to him first.

Lol Sean McVay is drunkard now?

DB is that anyway way to talk about a Trending HC??

To your point, the Rams season last year was destroyed by having one of the worst OLs in the league. This past spring, they had no 1st round pick, so their very first draft pick was … a left guard.

And it was the second draft in a row where the Rams’ first pick in the draft was a guard.

I didn’t like the Strange pick, I still don’t like it. I was hoping for a CB but when their pick was coming I thought they should take Karlaftis. In retrospect I wish they’d have taken Tyler Smith but it’s yet to be seen whether Smith can play LT in the NFL. If not then he’d be a better LG I think than Strange.

It could be worse, the Texans took Kenyon Green 14 picks before the Pats took Strange. Green was terrible last year, much worse at LG than Strange, and he’s been injured all year this year. The Chargers took Zion Johnson 12 picks before the Pats took Strange. Johnson played RG last year and had worse stats than Strange had at LG, he moved to LG this year and has done better than Strange but he‘s nothing special, just like our guy.

Due to all of the above I can see the logic in a trade down from 2 to 5 to pick up a high 2nd plus more and draft one of the top two LTs. Take a QB with one of your high 2nds. Good LTs are almost as rare as good QBs these days.
Agree.

LT Joe Alt. Then QB Michael Penix.

It could have been better. Much better. And there was simply no reason for BB to have drafted as he did.

Zach Tom. A binkie at the time of many of us at the draft forum. Taken THREE rounds after Cole Strange. Better versatility. Played higher level competition. His athletic profile identical to Strange’s except a handful fewer bench presses, a RAS of 89 to Strange’s 90.

Zach Tom.

Taken in the fourth round. A RAS of 89 to Strange’s 90.

But Tom played in the ACC at multiple OL positions such as LT and center. Superb intelligence and sterling character.

In the fourth round!

So far Tom—unsurprisingly—is having a more successful pro career than Strange69.

Most of this board wanted Kaiir Elam.

Very few of the players taken in that late 1st round or early 2nd have panned out. That draft was really weak.

Yeah I can see the logic there… Alt in the 1st then grab your choice of Penix, Nix or maybe McCarthy in the 2nd plus someone like WR Xavier Worthy with the other 2nd you picked up. Keep Hunter Henry at TE, re-sign Kendrick Bourne, you’re probably in a decent spot.

The alternative is taking Maye with your first rounder and then see who is around at the top of the 2nd at LT. It is thankfully a somewhat decent tackle crop. You might be able to trade up into the late 2nd and still get a good LT. So kind of depends on what you want to do.

Strange played multiple positions as well. Not surprised you seem to have forgotten that.
