You should count players that resulted from traded draft choices.
No we shouldn't.
2007 was just fine.
No it wasn't.

I’d still vote for the Raiders cutting two convicted first rounders…So is the Patriots 2019 draft class the worst of the modern era?

Well he's got the colors right. Sorta.

2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 were horrendous.Harris and Bailey are saving it from being ranked below 2017 but it's up there. 2007 was also bad.
Cap, did they take the wrong guy from Miami? Should they have another guy who was continuedly mocked to go to the Pats?No it wasn't.
Define modern era?I meant Patriots modern era.
They suck. But Stidham couldn’t even beat out Hoyer. There’s a very high likelyhood he isn’t better and just a waste of a spotHave you seen the other QBs on their roster besides Carr?
OK, getting Moss and Welker was a truly a terrible use of draft picks. No we shouldn't.

Who am I referring to ladies and gents?

Not surprised at all by this move. Stidham had fallen off the depth chart. And they used a 4th on Zappe.Feels like this was inevitable given Zappe's (relatively) high draft status. A little surprised they're doing it now rather than having the extra camp arm, but I'm sure they can find anyone with a pulse off the street to just take superfluous camp reps if need be. Makes some sense for McDaniels getting someone who's worked with his system for a few years into camp to help spread the concepts.
I'm guessing the pick swap is a Patriots 7th for a Raiders 6th. Can't imagine he has more value than that.
The 7th rounder has more value? Why wasn't N'Keal Harry traded instead of the 7th rounder?
Yes, I know. That's not what I mean; but you knew that.
Patriots are not getting good returns on their QB draft picks...
Rohan Davey 4th Round 2002... didn't make the 2005 team and was cut for nothing.
Kliff Kingsbury 6th Round 2003... didn't make the team and was cut for nothing.
Matt Cassel 7th Round 2005... traded with Mike Vrabel to KC for a 2nd Round pick in 2009... Patriots selected Patrick Chung... put this one in the plus column.
Kevin O'Connell 3rd Round 2008... didn't make the team in 2009 and was cut for nothing.
Zac Robinson 7th Round 2010... didn't make the team and was cut for nothing.
Ryan Mallett 3rd Round 2011... traded to Houston for a 6th Round pick in 2014... Patriots selected Matthew Wells who never made the team.
Jimmy Garoppolo 2nd Round 2014... traded to SF for a 2nd Round pick in 2017... reportedly they could have gotten better compensation but they didn't shop the player at all... that 2nd Round pick they got they dissolved in bevy of subsequent trades for lower round picks.
Jacoby Brissett 3rd Round 2016... traded to Indianapolis in exchange for Phillip Dorsett in 2017... they didn't get much production out of Dorsett, although he did have a TD reception in the 2018 AFCCG.
Danny Etling 7th Round 2018... didn't make the team and was cut for nothing.
Jarrett Stidham 4th Round 2019... traded to LVR for an exchange of late round picks.
Mac Jones 1st Round 2021... current starter.
Bailey Zappe 4th Round 2022... TBD.
3rd Round picks on O'Connell and Mallett are probably the worst... got nothing out of or back for either one.
Jimmy G was taken to be the eventual starter... total miscalculation on what Brady had left in the tank and the hasty trade to SF was just bizarre.
Brissett was an inexplicable pick at the time... basically doubled down on your stupidity by drafting another mid-round QB with Brady clearly still playing at an elite level.
I hated the Stidham pick too.
It's either Stevenson or Onwenu whose salary gets added.Thats for Harry correct? If so didn’t know itd be that low
TBF, for a significant portion of the offseason, most of the available evidence (e.g., re-signing McCourty and ignoring all the available veteran QBs, not drafting a QB) suggested that the Patriots were, in fact, going to start either Stidham or Hoyer. And I remember a time when this board was so delusional thinking this guy was going to be the starter for 2020. Good times.
As I have said multiple times, there is more to a player's value than whatever draft pick the team gets at the end of the contract. As an example, their backups from 2007 to 2016 were good enough that the Patriots didn't have to overpay for a veteran backup. That freed up something like $30 to $50 million to spend on other positions.Patriots are not getting good returns on their QB draft picks...
