I think I'd rather have Amari Cooper but I'm ok with this if they get a deal done.

They should probably sign only one FA to the top of depth chart, and they certainly are drafting one in days 1 or day 2,so that leaves

Top Free agent (lock)
Rookie (lock)
Douglas (lock)
Boutte (lock)
Hollins
Polk
Baker
Bourne (traded or released)

It's too much, I think they will get rid of one of Polk or Baker after training camp.
It’s like

Sign or draft new guy
Sign or draft new guy
Douglas can play the slot
Pick from flotsam and jetsom

I actually believe Diggs for 2 years could be a very good bridge move.
Pre- ACL he could really get separation and was a deep tgreat. Vrabel can handle him.
He would instantly be #1 wr on team
I hooe they sign him and either get hunter or aiyuk

We don’t need guys who put themselves ahead of the team, and sulk if anybody but them gets the ball.
Why? You want to go 4-13 with nice guys who can’t play?

Why does Diggs wanting the ball seem like a negative to you? Isn’t wanting it better than not being capable big getting it?

I’m going to sulk if the guys we currently have are the ones getting the targets.

Boutte was a bit of a bust at LSU, even in his best year 2021 he reminded me of a poor man’s Robert Woods.

Diggs meanwhile coming out of college showed explosiveness and proved himself a speed mismatch. He was extremely fast and burned coverage deep down the field. Diggs was a true home-run threat who stretched a defense vertically. Diggs catch radius and ability to track the ball in the air at high point or down the sideline was insane.

Not even comparable talents

Agreed, 100 percent

Jesus how many years to you want to rely on ****ty players and hope they get better? They don’t
So after Nico Collins' 2nd season in the league, in which he had less catches, yards and TDs than Boutte in year 2, it was supposed to be obvious to everyone that he would have 80 catches, 1300 yards and 8 TDs in year 3?

And no. No. No. No. I'm not comparing the two players and hinting at Boutte having a similar trajectory. And of course we need to bring in better WRs. But I disagree with the "they are who they are" mentality when Collins is a great example of what can happen to a player when a football team is vastly improved around him.

Anyone complaining about diggs at this point is an idiot. He’ll be our #1 for a year or two. Make wr less of a requirement in round 1 or 2 of draft. Help our young receivers. Definitely be Mayes first option.

It’s not inevitable that nice guys can’t play. We’ve had some guys who weren’t divas that could play. Squirrel was one. Randy Moss wasn’t an ******* but he but did okay.

Diggs wanting ball isn’t a negative. Diggs sulking and *****ing and whining and shooting himself out of town like he did in Buffalo is a big negative. When you act so bad that the team that has you decides they don’t want you any more you’ve proven you are a liability not an asset.

Boutte isn’t Collins. Do you want to list all of the players who have had 2 first years like Boutte and then how many become like Collins?
Do you think will tell you it’s smart move to just rely on Boutte and hope?

Also Collins in his first 2 years played 977 snaps and caught 70 passes.
Boutte has played 876 and caught 45 so Collins was about 40% more productive.

We seem to be disagreeing that I say if there is a small chance the guy can be good get someone better and you are saying if there is any possibility at all, rely on him. To me that’s a recipe for disaster, and by the way, the blueprint of last years WR corps and OL.

We have guys now who can’t play.
Replacing a guy who can’t play with one who can, but will complain when he doesn’t get the ball makes you a better team. And what’s to complain about he’s going to be the only guy who can get open. He’ll get the ball as much as he wants.

But no, let’s no have good players because good players might complain. Who really gives a **** if he complains. I would rather have complaining than 4 win seasons. Someone should have companies last yard. Oh wait, they did, should’ve get rid of them?

Collins was a 3rd round pick who had enormous potential and a high ceiling coming out of college.

Height matters as well. Collins is 6’4 while Boutte stands at 5’11.

If he comes here and acts exactly like he did in Buffalo our WR room is much better.

Good lord no. You must not know about his "Me! Me! Me!" fits of pique that set him spiraling out of Buffalo. Here's a refresher:

4-13 teams should have angry people on them. We had guys telling us that they kept showing up.
Give me an ass who can play over a nice guy who can’t.
Diggs attitude has been part of teams that were 34-16 and made the playoffs every year. The team that was 16-35 should shut up about “being better than that”

A hot-headed competitor can be tolerated and worked with, selfish stat hounds who don't care about being a "me-first" distraction, not so much. But again, Vrabel is a trustworthy judge for what Diggs may or may not bring to the table.

You are implying that players don't get better or is it only the ones that you deem as ****ty? Was Nico Collins ****ty? I ask because his first two seasons were terrible and then he improved. Took Edelman awhile before he became good, so does he still carry the ****ty title?

Welker took awhile, Shakir, Jakobi, Adams, Godwin. Most of these guys hit their stride in year 3, which is the same year Booty is coming into. Do you want me to find more guys that were ****ty and then got good? Or are you getting the point that players can improve?

I watched Boutte at LSU. You really comparing him to a prime Diggs? That’s crazy talk.
in 2020 when Booty started getting a lot of hype he looked a lot like Diggs in his prime, so yes I am comparing them stylistically. I should have mentioned that their styles were similar. I did not say he was exactly like Diggs, because Diggs catches just about everything and Booty doesn't but the stature, speed and route running looked very similar.

What tools does Boutte bring to the table that could allow him to make a dramatic jump to a pro bowl level?

Hes not tall, he’s not big, he’s not strong, he’s not that fast, his hands are average, and his work ethic is questionable. Again his ceiling has never been very high at all. The definition of a JAG.

Your post said bad players don't get better, and it was in response to someone saying Boutte reminded him of Diggs at LSU, and now being another year removed from back to back ankle surgeries, he could see him improving in 2025. Nowhere in his post did he say don't sign Diggs because we already have someone better. He didn't say Boutte should be our WR1. All he said was he could see Boutte making a jump. I agree with him. It doesn't make us right. And it doesn't mean we should stand pat with the WR group we have.

For the record, I hope we sign Diggs, draft another WR no later than day 2 AND see improvement from Boutte and Douglas thanks to being in a more talented and better coached offense.

IF he likes Diggs unlike BB with D-Hop many moons back...Vrabel will not let Diggs leave the building without a contract. I hope Aiyuk is still in play image Diggs and Aiyuk with Maye. They might both miss the First Four Games: but it should be fun with both on the field together. Just bringing in Diggs shows me Vrabel values the WR position more than the GOAT HC.

Don't sleep on Boutte I think he's our Best young WR: he made surprising strides last year. AVP gave him more snaps that those other young Bums. Speaking of Bums this move tells me we're not high on Polk and Baker figuring it out.
