Today's Providence Journal calls out Pittsburgh #1 defense. They reported that the most potent offense they have played was Cleveland who rang up 353 td and 28 pts: 8 of their opponents score less than 21 pt on average. Compare that w/ the Pats who played 5 of the top 10 offenses in the league and not only beat them but kept all but philly from reaching their respected averages. THEY GOT BEAT BY THE JETS: Bring it on!

You've also played an easy schedule for putting up good defensive numbers. Take a look at the teams you've played and you'll find that they scored something similar to what would have been expected of that opponent no matter who they played (within reason). The only real exception to this all season was the Seahawks game, although the Bengals could also be argued.

To put it another way, I think this weekend will tell us a lot more about the Steelers than it will about the Patriots.

The facts speak for themselves your most difficult opponent has been the Browns while the Pats have gone into Indy, Dallas and have left with victories as they have in every other game. Fans of a team that struggled w/ the Dolphins, lost on the road to Arizona, Denver and The JETS ha!ha!(sorry I couldn't contain myself), should stop chest pounding about being the #1 defense in the league and stop guaranteeing victory.

Those are both incorrect... Washington had the #1 pass defense, not the number one overall. Dallas was never the top ranked defense this year. We've lead the league in points allowed from week one.

Understand perfectly, there is only 1 stat that matters 12-0, and we are approximately 30 hours from 13-0.

I'm amazed that the media is entirely missing this point. We can judge NE against the league elite because they've played them. We have no way to judge Pitt since they haven't played anybody.

I also think the media is ignoring the "big game" aspect of things. We've seen NE pull out tough wins in each of the last two games, with the opposing team doing whatever they could to give the game away.

NE has already played four big games this year (five if you include SD): Dallas, Indy, Philly, and Baltimore (the last two games were effectively playoff games the way Philly and Baltimore played). Maybe they were using yards, but I am positive that the Redskins were the #1 defense by some measure. We heard about it endlessly.

Regardless of the talent or ability of Philly and Baltimore those were both playoff-intensity games. They didn't start as big games but most definitely developed into them. And in both games the other team made boneheaded, (presumably) pressure-induced mistakes while NE rose to the occasion. If NE and Pitt are playing a tight game there is little doubt that the experience helps NE.

The San Diego game was greatly hyped considering the playoff game last year, the week of spygate, and at the time SD was 1-0 and coming off of a 14 win season. They hadn't entered their funk yet. I don't really count is as a big game because it was in week 2, but it was not your run-of-the-mill game.
