This is why I want to hear more details about what happened. Donte is guilty no matter what, but it could be mitigated to some degree regarding his sentence. I want to know if the victim was crossing the street legally, how dark it was, and whether Donte ran a red light. For all we know the victim himself was drunk and shouldn't have been a pedestrian at the time of the accident. It'll be interesting to hear what his defense lawyer comes up with.

Apparently in FLA in order to get a conviction on the manslaughter charge they are required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendent was solely responsible for the death. In this case we already know the victim was crossing a 6 lane with a 40 MPH speed limit against the lights and outside the crosswalk (i.e. jaywalking). For that reason while he's been charged with both offenses there is apparently a chance he never goes to trial on the manslaughter.

What a bunch of Bleeding Heart Liberals...always having sympathy and a kind heart for the criminal perpetrator.

Think of the person you love the most in this life...a wife, a child, a brother and etc...now Dante runs over your loved one while drunk...still have all that sympathy for him? This is NOT a tragedy for Dante and his family it is a tragedy for the guy who is buried in dirt and his family.

I'd happily wager pretty much anything you'd like that I'm more politically conservative than you are. DUI, like "Hate crime", is a bogus crime that should be stricken from the books.

So it's possible the victim could have just as easily been hit by a sober driver. I'm not saying that's a fact, I'm just wondering if it's a possibility. How many times does someone else do something completely unexpected like step of a sidewalk between two cars and you can't see them until the very last second or something along those lines. Even completely sober people can have close calls,or worse.

Just the other day I drove up to an ATM which was located around a corner as you entered, and holy s* there was someone standing in front of it using it like it was a "walk thru". Seriously I EASILY could've hit that person and if a car had been behind me I could've easily been rear-ended due to my sudden stop.
