Spencer Rattler, the Steal of the Draft

Four or five years from now we can argue who’s the best QB of this draft. But I reckon ole Rattler will be in the mix.
The beauty of being a good team is that they can take a player like Rattler with an eye on the future.
Bad teams with multiple dire needs of upgrade don't do that; their GM and HC are on the hot seat to improve in 1-2 years or they are out.

And Rattler benefits by not being throw in right away. Like in the old days when a QB sat for a year or two. Gives he a chipon his shoulder, the Rattler 7?

QB1 at pick 150. Not bad Saints. And he’s going to be better than most of the QBs taken before him.

I watched some highlights and Rattler is rather impressive. He has a bit of Mahomes in him; he is good at evading the rush and throwing on the run, although he does not have elite accuracy. Some of the on-the-run throws will get him into trouble in the NFL, and he will get crushed in the NFL if he does not get down earlier in his run runs, but overall, a fine prospect.

He's certainly a much, Much, MUCH better value where he was taken than Penix was where he was taken.

Emory is spot on. Spencer Rattler is going to make teams look foolish. I think his arm talent is elite. His stature? Not so much.

And his hubris as a 17-year-old phenom caught on film? Weighed him down. A lot.

Dogged him worse than the criminal actions of a Frank Clark or a Joe Mixon as grown ass men.

How to wrap my head around it?

One of the responses calls him the best QB of the past draft. Time will tell.

So you would rather have Rattler than Drake Maye?

I still see Rattler as nothing more than a back up QB.

The number 3 draft choice is expected to be elite. If Maye turns out to be a top 5 QB and Rattler ends up being a solid starter, Rattler would be the bigger 'steal', even if Maye has the better career.

I disagree wholeheartedly.

A top 5 QB is a steal at 1st overall. There's only 5 of 'em, and it's almost impossible to win without one.

Sorry, that doesn't make sense to me. The number 1 pick that flames out is a waste. A top 5 pick that turns out to be a top 5 player is what should be the expectation. If not trade down.

But “ steal” wasn’t the subject. State didn’t want them to take Maye, he wanted them to trade out and take Rattler, who imo isn’t going to amount to anything.

The Patriots had to get a franchise QB to build a contending team, it looks like they have one in Maye, and Rattler isn’t ever going to be one.

Somehow things got mixed up between the responses. My comments were based on the title of the thread. Clearly Maye is the better QB who is positioned to become franchise QB. I agree that Rattler does not seem to be a reliable starter, so not a steal.
