Sony Michel Injury (update: Expected to Play Week 10 vs Titans)

Why would you pay him that kind of money? He’s unemployed and would play for the league minimum

He’s already collecting the league minimum from the Saints for not playing. Why would he risk injury to not make anymore than he can sitting on his couch? That’s why You have to offer him a minimum plus contract for him to risk injury and play.

Gurley
Elliott
Barkley
Bell
etc...

The RB position is actually experiencing a bit of a renaissance. What's been lessened is the RB1 who absolutely can't catch the ball, and the FB.

Hopefully we can add Sony to that list.

They might just want to wait a bit on Michel. If he's out 1-2 games, might not want to risk exposing a player like Davis.

Wouldn't mind holding em out till after the bye week, I doubt he'll play against the Packers and after that it's the Titans.

Goal line situations occur at least once a game but short yardage for 1st downs occur quite often. If we really need a yard, I don’t know why they don’t use Develin as a short yardage back and have Allen block for him.

Or Develin block for Allen. Or for Patterson.

There are a lot of different ways the Pats can handle those situations during Sony's temporary absence without moving someone off the roster for the sake of having a "specialist" with no Pats experience. Which was my point.

Because playing can help him get his career back in track. Sitting in the couch won’t.

That would be great, but I don't really trust anyone at WEEI anymore.
Source is "league source" FWIW. Personally, I don't doubt the info but nobody has a crystal ball for each player's recovery or how the staff chooses to manage it. For me, it makes the need for a trade less acute. The only help by Monday would be Farrow.

Globe had the same thing. If you trust them anymore lol.

Both citing undefined "NFL sources" no doubt. Could be a friend of some assistant equipment manager's second cousin, for all they're revealing.

If he sat on his couch the rest of the season, he’d still get a chance from some team in training camp next season. He would not get that chance if he’s rehabilitating an ACL.

If he signed with the Pats today and rushed for 120 yards Monday night, do you think he’s guaranteed himself a roster spot with the Pats or another team in 2019? Of course not. It might not even guarantee him a spot on the Pats roster when Burkhead comes off IR in a few weeks. Why take the risk then?

I’m glad you’re not an agent, Andy. You’d be advising your clients to do whatever Belichick says because not only does he ALWAYS have what’s best for the Patriots in mind, he does for every player as well.

I would still milk the time with Sony we have been so unfortunate with our High Draft picks. I don't think any of us really expected this news we need him for the long run. I would still Add a quality Short yardage RB for the interim and wave someone Taxi Squad eligible.

Holy crap did we luck out or what?

Not yet.

Does no one recall that, when Sony had his knee procedure early on during Camp, media sources like WEEI were claiming that he'd be back to practice in a couple weeks and would be ready-to-go for week-1?

Being hopeful is good, but sighs of relief based on media reports from "league sources" may be premature. As BB says, "we'll see how that goes."

Farrow was a practice player of the week and could be added for Buffalo. Candidates for opening a roster spot include Davis, Grissom, etc., or someone to IR (e.g. Rowe).

Football players who don’t have jobs have a better chance of getting one if they want to play football than if they want to stay home because they are getting paid anyway.
It’s basic common sense.

What in the world does this have to do with Belichick? Your obligatory stupid comment kind of tells me you don’t deal in common sense, and your unhealthy obsession with trashing Belichick makes you blind.
