There are quite a few good Red Sox players who have never had their number
retired.
I was never on board with the decision to retire Fisk's number.
When he left for the White Sox over the post date on his contract, he
eliminated himself as a candidate in my eyes.
The Red Sox retired numbers mean a lot more that the Celtics who seem
to retire too many players numbers.
I am afraid that if the Sox resign Varitek he is going to get his number retired
when he retires to please the pinkhats of the world.
I hope the Sox find a young catcher and move on so that Varitek ends up
with another team to Finnish his career.
If Varitek does not retire a Red Sox player, there is a good chance they
will not retire his number.
If you think I am crazy, I have already heard from people like Butch Stearns
and Tony Mazzarotti that they would not be surprised to see his number
retired. Stearns actually considers Varitek a candidate for the HOF.
The media is full of pinkhats (Stearns is #1).
