"I will never be able to "accept" going 18-0 then losing the final game at the hands off a 86 yard comeback drive led by Eli Manning and ending with a wide open Plaxico Burress in the endzone.

It angers me. It depresses me. It confuses me.

Bottom line is Bill Belichick and Tom Brady were unable to win the biggest game of their lives. I have a hard time accepting that. And the fact we directly led to two back to back Manning championships is sickening.

The last two years of Pats football have ended in historic chokes.

Regardless, maybe #4 will take some of the bad taste out of my mouth. However I will not be one of those sobs who rehashes this subject over and over again, nor will I ever bring up actually. Only reason I'm talking about now is because there's a thread about it."

One of the best posts ever on this old, tired, worn out subject; pretty much nails it..................

accepting......what other way is there really?

Acceptance here. Because the 2008 season is just a few months away and I'm excited for it to come. :singing:

There is no other way. Accept the loss, learn from your mistakes and come back stronger next year and get the job done! Go Pats! Get us #4.

I was doing just fine until I read this: http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2008/06/kraft_congratul.html

"Congratulations to the entire Boston Celtics organization!" The advertisement includes the Celtics logo and the words: "2008 World Champions."

Definitely an incredibly classy gesture on his part- Kraft really is an amazing, amazing owner. The wording "2008 World Champions" made me sad though- maybe that's weird lol, but it did.

Otherwise I've accepted the loss, but I'll never forget it. The story of the 2007 Patriots... a legendary tale, really, and one amazing ride for us fans too. But I'm REALLY looking forward to this season, I can't wait:rocker:

I voted acceptance but obviously I'm still capable of drifting into any of the stages at any given time LOL. Whenever people start talking about some of the specific plays, calls, refs, etc I get pissed off all over again. Then I move right on down the list all over again.

Acceptance here...it was a great run....perfect regular season and records beyond belief......

Cannot wait till the 2008 season!!

I don't think ANYTHING that he could have done would have overshadowed being the only team to go 19-0, along with all those scoring records and 4 Super Bowl victories in 7 years. Maybe I'm wrong.

I agree. And they would have accomplished that 19-0 under the most intense scrutiny, on and off the field, probably ever in the history of the NFL.

A SB win, an absolutely Perfect Season, would have shut up a LOT of people, and Goodell would've shot off his nose to spite his face if he started punishing them for stupid bs. The Patriots have been his biggest cash cow, and had they won the SB, been absolutely perfect, that cash cow would have gotten even bigger.

Plus the NFL should be honoring that kind of acheivement not discrediting it,and jmo but I think a lot of that post SB crap would not have surfaced; Specter et al would have looked even more petty and stupid in the wake of that accomplishment, and Tomasse would've reverted back to his usual nothingness.

19-0 would have made anything from the past seem inconsequential. There was NOTHING the Pats could possibly be accused of that season. The NFL and every other team watched them like hawks all season long, starting with Norv Turner

100% rage every time I see a photo of Bone Head Eli Manning with the Lombardi Trophy. Belichick or Brady must be related to the Captain of the Titanic.

Really guys-you have ALOT to be proud of. TWO out of the THREE MAJOR sports teams in your area won all the marbles. Now that's NO small feat in ANY city. And to boot-the fact that it was THIS close to 3 is alot to be proud of too.

Look at the city of Dallas-the Cowboys are not the only team there going 1 and done. Ditto The Big Easy-their teams always find a way to choke late in seasons. Or look at Philly-deservedly, it's been ages since they've won a title.

Anyhow-keep your heads up, you have ALOT to be proud of.

still pissed...i couldn't visit patsfan for a while...refused to go on espn (still am, except for bill simmons stuff)...am only able to take football news in bits and pieces...next season can't come soon enough

It was acceptance for me a long time ago.

It helps to think about the fact that we've been on the other side of that. Back in 2001, we were the team that got hot and got into the Super Bowl and had no business beating the unstoppable machine but we did. Think about what Rams fans must have felt like. The Giants looked a lot closer to us than we did to St. Louis.

I agree with that, basically. The only regret for me is not that we lost, because we have had more than our share of glory in the past few seasons, but that we had that once in a lifetime shot to be recognized as the best ever, the only 19-0 team ever, and a dynastic run virtual equal to the 70's Steelers, 4 of 6 or 7. That chance will never come again.

i had to drive for 3 hours by myself immediately following the game, so i went through all 5 stages on that drive.

Whew! Well at least you didn't drive the car off a bridge. I probably would have...

I also had to drive about 4 hours the next morning.....listening to WAAF all the way home....it was a rough morning....felt like i went thru all 5.....

I went through the first three in the first 48 hrs., the 4th for about two months and I've been in acceptance mode, literally since the day Randy Moss re-signed. On that day I could finally relax and say, "Okay, I'm moving on to next year!"

First of all, you are certainly consistent. This has been your view since shortly after the game and you've stuck to it. I admire that.

Second, I don't make the same comparison you do between the 2007 and 2008 season enders. Last year, I honestly believe that Brady and Belichick squeezed every drop out of an offense without a premium wideout and an RB who was injured much of the time. Whether or not we believe the reports that they were playing with the flu, I just think they plain old ran out of gas at the end of a season they had maxed.

Third, I don't share your view on this year's game and now ascribe to Rodney's comment that they were beat on a play the Giants wouldn't make again if they ran it a million times (the "helmet catch" by a guy who, according to reports in the NY Press, won't make the roster this year). However, I do remain mystified at the rest of the game. The O-Line played like a torn up old screen door and the Coaching was baffling. I have accepted it, but I still can't explain it.

Keep the faith!
