SMY: Moss, Burgess, Guyton, and Thomas sent home Wed after late for 8am meeting

Moss has reportedly been fine with this team, and the next problem I hear regarding Guyton's behavior or attitude will be the first.

I prefer to base my points on facts, not hunches and coincidences, when possible.

That's pretty interesting since you immediately decided Belichick was wrong when vitually NONE of the facts are known to the general public.

Yeah, not so much:

Probably an overreaction of the team to make anything at all of this and, if they really were late because of the weather, it was stupid of the team to send them home. Despite what some people are claiming here, you can't perfectly "adjust" for bad weather, because you don't know what kind of a backup it's going to cause. A small fine would have been more than sufficient, if anything was to be done at all.

Then again, this would be just one more thing in the "bad decision by Belichick" column this year.

How has Adalius Thomas not been cut by now?

He would be a huge financial hit to cut. We would lose an additional $7,260,000 according to Miguel.

He's also our NFLPA rep and I'm sure is sensitive to any maneuvers that might be used. But if he so much as gets a hangnail I'm sure we'd love to put him on IR.

Well that explains it. Thanks for the insight Mayoclinic.

Agreed.

My gut tells me that the loss of Harrison, Bruschi and Vrable is hurting this team a lot. The lockerroom police are gone. The past few drafts (I will leave out this past season) have sucked and BB has missed on FA signings lately. People say the defense is in rebuilding mode - and I will buy that. However, the growing pains stink!!!

Exactly.

And here's a great note from Fauria via Tom Curran (who has inked... pixeled... another real good article).

Curran: Belichick throws the challenge flag

FOXBORO -- Former Patriots tight end Christian Fauria said Bill Belichick's philosophy on punctuality was simple.

"Bill used to say, 'It's New England. Make sure you leave yourself enough time to get here. And that doesn't mean you can call 10 minutes before 8 and tell me you'll be late. Regardless of what time you're supposed to be here, leave time for inclement weather.'
"In my book, it's unbelievably careless," said Fauria, who won two Super Bowls in his time here."

-- Tom E. Curran

That's what I'm talking about, Hey Bro. Here, unlike in S. Cal, most people don't flip out over anything less than a full-blown snowstorm, e.g., something that's at least a foot high, or a raging ice storm.

Traffic in bad weather is not something you can measure with 100% accuracy. I once left 40 minutes than usual and was still 2 hours late because 3 accidents closed 3 different roads.

Despite the nonsense some people here are trying to put forth, weather and traffic do make even the most driven people late for appointments of various kinds.

You can keep offering your version of chaos theory and the butterfly effect to support your position, but if properly funded, and any professional athlete lives well above the American norm, you have (1) Internet-based near real time information, (2) 24/7 news media, and (3) in vehicle road navigation systems with routing information and live traffic feeds. You may have been traveling by celestial navigation to find your way to work, but these guys can call in police escorts if they need to make it through traffic. And if they really have trouble getting through the slippery spots, they can buy an appropriate vehicle like a snow cat or M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank. A Hummer is certainly not an unreasonable acquisition. These guys are required to show up for work all of 6 months a year, so planning on getting there an hour or so early is not too much to ask.

Ask anyone who has served in the military: when properly motivated (under threat of real consequences) you get where you have to go on time, and that includes through scenarios with munitions exploding around you and certainly through weather. The military regularly teaches if you are not 15 minutes early, you are late. If you are late, you pay the price. I expect a battlefield represents a more severe scenario than the 20 mile commute to the Razor, so I have little sympathy for the 4 soldiers here who couldn't battle their way through the snow in an area known for snow in their luxury vehicles and make it to work on time. If that represents nonsense, you may want to exit the Matrix and enter the world of the real.

Thanks. Until this post, I wasn't sure who was going to go the farthest in losing their minds trying to defend Belichick on this. You're now clearly in the lead. If you think navigation aids can magically cure each and every weather-related tardiness, there's a psychiatrist just waiting for your business.

As for the military, let's just say that I've had enough experience there to know better than buy that argument of yours.

Edit: Just something I saw on another site:
it took Mr. PFL 45 minutes to drive from our house in Sharon to Rte. 1A in Walpole, about a 15 minute drive tops, and in the same area as the stadium in a 4-wheel drive F150. Traffic was brutal because Massachusetts drivers become functional idiots when there's a flake falling.

So, yeah.... weather was apparently a legitimate factor.

Let's see, I stated three out of four (let me spell that out for you). Guyton would be the one left off the dog house list. If you would like to defend Moss, I don't have a problem with that. A lot of critics, here and in the media, have called out those three in regards to attitude. I know, I know, its a stretch. We should only post on fact............LMFAO.

MassPats38 was right about the police escorts, though. On the night of the snow bowl, Brady called team security when he got stuck in traffic on Rt. 1. He got a state police escort in.

Actually, today was a great example of why this sort of stuff should be left for facts. WEEI was full of 'critics' defending Moss' behavior with the Patriots to this point, even as they were expressing their concerns about how he'll behave moving forward.

And, since you went with three out of four, and I pointed out two out of four, that would lead to a discrepancy. I didn't even bother mentioning Burgess, whom fans would put in the 'doghouse' on the basis of play rather than any known locker room issues.

If the reports regarding the traffic because of bad weather is true and tha'ts the reason why they couldn't get there on time, then this is stupid.

What kind of message are you really sending? That you're unreasonable?

The message is "It doesn't matter what adversity you are up against, bear down, focus and do your job! No excuses, just accountability." You know, the kind of message that carried this team to three Super Bowl victories.

No I don't think so. When employers set a policy and rule I don't think there is any other choice for employees but to obey or be shown the door. This literally happened today at my work, when a bunch of people didn't turn up they was told by my boss that weather is not an excuse and those people had to take the day off. Some employees like me found our way to work and was there on time in spite of the the lousy weather and treacherous road conditions.

Last time I checked, playing for patriots is job and whether they like it or not obey and follow the rules, or else sent home. Whether the people liked it is a different story but I don't think they have a choice.

Belichick is playing with fire here. Moss is the last guy in the world you wanna tick off. He's one of those guys like Dennis Rodman or Artest, that are usually harmless and introverted, but if you trigger them or stimulate them in the slightest of fashions, it can spiral out of control and ultimately rip a franchise apart. I don't know what's truly going on here, but I would let Moss do whatever he wants...come late once in a while, skip practices, have his own recliner, etc. We'd be a 6-10 without Moss this year.

Weather is definitely not an excuse. As an actor, I show up 2 hours before call. If there is terrible weather, as was the case here in Denver about a month ago, I leave even earlier. By showing up earlier, you use the extra time to practice your craft, warm up etc. People who aren't dedicated don't do this and subsequently don't get better.

I say we should win the next game with Aiken, Ninkovich, Alexander and Woods instead. I think it would be exactly the kick in the pants this team needs. Take us back to when we won a SB with blue-collared players... players that really, REALLY want to play.

Lakers cut Dennis Rodman and then in a year or so went on to win 3 straight championships.
