Slightly surprising possible picks at #22

How about one of these:

Corey Wootton: DE: Huge stork with giant wingspan.

Mike Iupati: G: To heck with finesse blocking; pair with Vollmer and steamroll. Leverage Mankins also.

Ricky Sapp: OLB convert: Seems like a reach but has serious speed.

Nope to all three at #22. I like the players, but all can probably be had with an early 2nd round pick. There are several teams picking between #22 and #44 who may well have reason to move up, thus we would have the opportunity to engineer snagging one of your guys PLUS an extra pick.

If you're looking for a shock pick at #22, I'd say Earl Thomas if he falls that far, even with Pouncey and Bryant still on the board.

Nice call on Wooton. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those big pass rushing DE/OLBs that are flying under the radar due to injury concerns (like Wooton or Hardy) are high on the Pats board.

And yeah, the finesse blocking needs to go immediately. Draft Pouncey and draft another big physical OT (like Jared Veldeer) to play RT opposite to Vollmer. I think the Pats would be the best in the division if they load up on young effective trench warriors.

I'd love to see Vollmer at LT, Veldheer at RT, Mankins at LG and Saffold at RG, but I think we're just as well off, if not better, with Tennant at C.

Now THAT would be the REAL shocker - trade our #22 for #38, #71 and #177 from the Browns, use the #38 on Saffold and the #71 on Veldheer and then trade our #53 for the Eagles #70 and #87 and use the #87 to snag Tennant. We'd still have our #44 for Alualu, our #47 for someone like Cook, Damian Williams or Benn. Then we'd have the #70 for Hardesty, Decker or Tate. The #119 for Te'o-Nesheim. Plus the #177 and 7 picks in the 6th/7th.

Thats my hope for our pick at 22. Grab Hughes, and then grab Kareem Jackson, Rodger Saffold, and Best Available TE in round 2. I originally was wanting a WR with one of our first four picks, but have changed my stance and believe we can grab a couple on saturday.

Better. But Jackson and Saffold are both now projected to go in the early 2nd - before our #44.

And the next (projected) available TEs are McCoy (mid-3rd), and ****erson, ****son and Pitta (all late-3rd).

Ah but how far do DEs have to run? Seriously though that does sound plodding even for a DE although he could beat Brandon Spikes. I wonder how fast Ty Warren was coming out...

Wooton ran slowly because he's coming off a knee injury. And at 6'5, he's got the frame to add 25 lbs pretty easily.. but he'd be better as a SOLB ala Willie. 40 times don't mean much for OLBs. It's the 10 and 20 that are the big numbers.. and his 10 and 20 put him in line with the other OLBs that people have talked about.

After watching all tape I could find on Kindle, I have to admit I have massive man-crush on this kid....... I have no who BB will select at #22, or even if he will select at #22 but I am sitting on pins and needles and I am loving it!

Iupati: A few earlier mocks had him going to the Pats, then Pouncey started to rise.

(I'm not a college football fan until draft season, and I'm always amazed how much a player's value can change over a three-month period when no football is played. Iupati, Pouncey, RB Dwyer are just a few examples. But I digress).

I agree that a Belichick-type move would be to go for Iupati or Pouncey while the competition is going all wide receiver. Bring back some smash-mouth and basically say that that whole wild passing thing is so 2007. You could look at it and say those two linemen's value is pretty high for 22 (and I'll throw the Boise State CB Wilson into that category too as a wild card), while there are plenty of DE/OLB, TE, WR and RB types to be had later.
