Slater wants to coach

He makes more as a player than he would as a coach, so there's that...

Would he be a good coach? He got experience... He's got leadership skills, can talk to groups, can emphasize a message... Yeah I think he'd be a good coach once he learns how to differentiate how to communicate as a coach not as a player

Somebody recently (I think on one of the podcasts) suggested something like chaplain and assistant strength coach, which would have him extremely involved while not requiring the work hours of something like ST assistant.

Coaches don't get into coaching for the money.

Good foundation.

Yea ever since Jack Easterbunny left it's been all downhill.....

While I generally agree, How much do head coaches make? Or highly coveted coordinators? There is the potential for significant financial renumeration for professional coaches (and div 1 college coaches) ... Not entry level though, where he'd start if he came on board the Pats coaching staff... Maybe play 1 more year, save the cash, then coach?

The can make a ton. I bet BOB is pulling in $2-$3m

Agee. That's my only point. Entry level coaches do not make much. Depending on experience $50-$100k max. If Matt comes in as a coach it'll be because it's a passion as opposed to about the money.

Considering before taxes he's made $27m if he needs to play one more year to fatten the nest egg he has a cash mgt/spending issue.

Plus his wife is a pathologist and has her MD. She's gotta be pulling in ~$300k in her own right.

He go work at Market Basket and they'd be fine.

I think his wife having a career in NE and obviously his fame is based in NE, so it only makes sense for him to stay in the area.

I bet he is a HC in the NFL one day. Bright guy, basically grew up in the NFL. Might be the only father-son duo in the HOF one day too.

Slater has his nest egg for sure. He can come on in a smaller role for lower pay because it's doing what he loves. As time goes on his role could grow and eventually he could find himself in an assistant ST coach role making $400K a year or something. Pretty respectable, I'm sure he can make it happen. He's very sharp, maybe he could even go further.

If Joe Judge was able to swindle the Mara family into an HC contract then anything is possible.

I agree, make him assistant ST coach and let him learn and eventually become the ST coach.

Yeah, the guy is pretty emotionally stable. I suspect he's got $10M put away, and in low risk investments and/or real estate, and an owned home.
He and the wife can probably squeeze by on $800K a year until retirement.

You keep a person like Slater in the organization in any role you can. Mayo is a model, he also has the qualifications to the Chaplain.

For The Love Of G_d, do NOT let him be a receivers coach!!!
Anvil hands.

We know up until recently coaches on the staff were definitely underpaid... he made a good living in his career.. ST would have to be where he'd be... Considering how bad we were last season... it's interesting though for sure.. guess it all depends on what slate wants to do..

I'd think he'd want to step away from the game for a bit, that really allows a player to see what they want to do next..

While I think he'd be great as a Pats coach and would welcome him anywhere, I think he'd make an outstanding HS football coach. He would not only teach football but teach the kids how to succeed in life. It'd be like Friday Night Lights, except the high school football players wouldn't be actually 27-year-olds.

Eventually?

Make him Special Olympics teams coach Right Now, and in his first official move have him escort Judge Joey AND Cant Assford THE **** OUTTA THE BUILDING.

The question is how old are the kids? It could be a situation like my guy Troy B who spent a long time as an analyst, and once the kids were older got more into coaching.
