Slater to Return in 2023

Sorry the importance of the role is lost on you.
Were the ST a disaster for the last two season or not?

Like I said, in one rookie season, Marcus Jones has accomplished more than Slater for his entire career. Marcus already has 3x as many TDs. And Slater fell on his one career TD in the end zone with no one near him.

I don't know if this is an official stat but over the years it seems Slater was downing punts inside the 10 regularly. At least more often than I remember our other guys doing it.

Too bad he didn't say that on December 27, 2015.
Come on Craw, don't go all MAC10 on us and single out an instance to define an excellent ST career. That was Belichick's choice

So hes to blame? Please. You are looking for a scapegoat and a BS way of trying to prove a point.

Different positions. Different roles. Different responsibilities.

You need to do some research and understand what "hidden yardage" means.

I'd like to see those stats. Because there's no way Slater is downing punts inside the 10 "regularly."

Its anecdotal but it sticks in my mind and I remember making mental notes but I don't have specifics

Generally this notion of "3 phases" drives me crazy. ST is nowhere near as important as offense and defense. And as far as importance of ST players... return specialist, kickers, punters, even long snappers, you know, players who regularly handle the football, are more important than gunners.

It's less and less important with rule changes but bad special teams play can really hurt a team

You are joking right?

Here are some ST players worth talking about...

Devin Hester
Deion Sanders
Brian Mitchell
Dante Hall
Josh Cribbs
Eric Metcalf
Dave Meggett
Darren Sproles
Desmond Howard
Antwaan Randle El
Leon Washington

It's not AS important but special teams can win or lose a game for you, especially lose a game if they're bad. WE saw ST win us a game this year, goes both ways.

what a complete joke. Slater sucked last year and has sucked for several years. waste of $ and the effing special teams were atrocious....why In the wtf are they bringing him back? is this so Bill the Coach can "communicate" w younger players? such a waste of $
You are REALLY, really a ridiculous football fan. I'm ashamed I even bothered to respond. Comparing you to a troll would be a slander to all trolls.

Good move. The Pats are getting younger by the day. And with 11 picks with about 6 likely to stick,"a wise old head" will be needed. Leadership in the locker room is underrated and the $1.5MM he is likely to get will be well worth it, if only for that.

I'll just retreat from the thread now. I'm not a fan but it's not fair to those who are for me to carry on about it. As you were.

I’ve never been a ST only fan but Slater is top 3 all-time in the Gunner category. Hell yeah I’m glad he is back.

He did say he wanted to coach with the Patriots. Maybe this is a transition year.

Comparing Slater’s punt block numbers to Tasker’s is such a hilariously bad faith argument. Go back and look at some of those blocks in the 80’s and 90’s. The punt formations are completely unrecognizable. There’s a reason every punt formation looks basically the same now. It’s because it works.

tell me, how good were the special teams? no sir, you are the utmost of clowns
1. You don’t know how to use utmost properly in a sentence.

2. Do I really have to explain to you why their special teams failures over the past two years don’t fall at the feet of Slater?

I don’t think you understand how revered Slater is, by both the young guys and the seasoned vets. The leadership void is now guaranteed to be smaller than it otherwise would have been.

lol no it's not. Who the **** wastes any time talking about Slater's open-field tackling? It comes up in threads all the time .

You'd better watch out, lest you get lumped in with FCB as a chronic purveyor of negative takes.
