Silver Lining... Sony Michel

He was nothing special in the passing game before Hunt.

But hes not playing 16 games so he'll be lucky to hit 1000yds this year.

Chubb has 931 yards and 10 touchdowns in only 10 games played. That’s incredible numbers. 2 games to earn 70 yards, sounds like he will break 1000 easily

chubb is a special talent. An all pro for several years. painful we scouted that backfield and made the assumption Sony was better. then again, our GM has been awful the past 5 years in the draft

I have suspected this, did BB watch the tape and mistook Michel for Chubb? I am still not sure how a running back with bad knees, who shared the backfield with a teammate who is better than him was our pick in the first round. I also suspect BB had mistaken identity issues with N'Keal Harry and Brandon Aiyuk LOL, JK!

Then I remember that Michel was the #2 back behind Nick Chubb in college.
While Chubb got more carries it's sort of curious to see how Michel was more productive than him in their final college year. Especially in the Rose Bowl against Oklahoma and the National Championship game against Alabama Michel completely shattered Chubb's numbers, the latter in particular struggling against Alabama with 18 carries for 25 yards while Michel had 14 for 98.

chubb saw stacked boxes the most in college while Sony barely saw them

in 2018, Chubb averaged 3.8 yards after contact. Despite seeing heavier boxes, Chubb consistently showed that he could run through contact. He’s built well and doesn’t shy away from contact. chubb was the bell cow and ran through stacked boxes on first & second down. Michel saw an eight man box only 10% of the time in 2018. In addition, Michel was primarily used on the field in 10 and 11 personnel to spread the defense out.

chubb is an elite athlete, he tested way better than Michel. Chubb made way more sense for a higher draft pick than Michel. Chubb is proficient at gap runs, power, and zone. chubb has elite skills at second level of defense. Chubb is a better athlete, runs through contact better, eludes defenders better, fares well against stacked boxes, has stronger ball security, and runs with better instincts. Chubb catches the ball better too. Sony has brick hands, his sample size in college was small.

Harry and Sony supporters love to claim ”they block well” to Cover up the fact both suck at running and catching the ball. You don’t use first round picks on WRs/RBs for blocking folks.

I still prefer Harris, but Michel made the gap between them look a lot smaller. Great to see him break tackles and catch a pass.

A two headed monster type of offense with Harris and Sony might be interesting. Would help protect a possibly rookie QB too if there is one. Would be even better if they can be used in the passing game.
Why did you stop there? Maybe one can be the starting quarterback next season too.

My god, two headed monster? Sony's a backup RB third season so he's not trending in the right direction. You can pump the brakes on Harris too. Neither looks like a viable passing game option, especially Sony who has looked downright foolish at times trying catch a pass.

If Michel was drafted in the second (or third) round and performed as well as he did his first season and up to this point (remember the good old days when we were debating the merits of backs who fumbled [Ridley], etc.? - which is something Michel doesn't do) would people still hate him? Is it his fault the Patriots took him where they did? Asking for a friend.

A bunch of people had Michel ahead of Chubb in that draft but nice job trying to be a revisionist to help your argument

I think the sad thing is our offensive staff probably does use public sites to inform and make these terrible draft choices the last couple years.

Funny you would bring that up. Did a lot of people rank Duke Dawson, Jordan Richards or Cyrus Jones as high second round picks? If BB gets an pass because some experts ranked Michel high, then he should get blamed for going completely off the board and draft those three idiots a good round or three before they were supposed to get picked. Oh and by the way, it is actually BB and his personnel department's job to figure out who are the good players in a draft, not some online experts. If online experts are what we go by nowadays, then we should just fire the entire personnel department, get ESPN Insider access and use Todd McShay or Mel Kiper Jr's mock drafts as our big board.

Seriously? Sony? My god who cares about even one inch of his useless yardage from yesterday. The game, the entire season, has been a total debacle. Sony is just one of SEVERAL mind-numbingly worthless draft picks of Belichick. The roster is pretty much a dumpster fire.

I think that we have identified Capt. Stone’s burner account.

Rex is gone
Yeah, damn shame the way it ended, but for a RB at his age and with his need to explode through that first hole at the LOS, the odds are against him...Never say never of course, but Jeremy Hill never has really made it back either...

Harris is the guy and Michel will be a fine backup with Taylor the new receiving back. Rex is gone and White probably goes to Miami or Tampa Bay. We're going to see more and more veterans moving on from here.

Let's see how Soreknee does vs Barfalo with whatever opportunities Skippy remembers to give him...I think he's actually improved his pass-catching this season compared to the last one...I'm in favor of resting Harris (& Wynn) for these last two completely meaningless games, so his opportunities should increase enough to be able to draw a better conclusion about toward which direction he is trending, I hope...

I don't blame him for where he was taken; that was out of his control. I blame the man who took him there.

If Bill did exactly that we would be in a better place than we are now.

Yeah the way Tampa's ground game continues to under-perform, the odds of Sweet Feet signing there continue to improve, though he won't really help in that department either...

As @captain stone said, I never blame the player, but blame the person that took him. However, I don't blame Bill as he actually took a guy that was the next highest ranked at that position for once.

Again, as @captain stone said, he'd have a lot more success going that route. Bill's got to stop with the cute trade downs and then taking a guy nobody's ever heard of. This team needs name players from big time schools.

Yeah he's an atrocious runner inside the tackles, but he'd do the same things he did with Tom in NE. Fournette probably regrets signing in TB and will leave and McCoy probably won't be back.
