I am still trying to understand how JJ Watt had 9 QB hits today. Oh and an interception for a TD. Can we sign him please…

I hate to play the hindsight drafting game, but there have only been a handful of players that I really wanted. Obviously, JJ Watt was one of them. Muhammad Wilkerson was another.

I will never understand why they didn't trade up and draft Watt and then draft Sherman in the 3rd round instead of Mallett...

See, that's where it starts to become a very touchy proposition--I mean, all teams passed on Richard Sherman at least 4-5-6 times until he was taken, much like Tom Brady. I don't bother trying to read into that kind of stuff myself.

In the case of JJ Watt, it seemed to be reasonable to think that they certainly could've moved up from #17 to get into the proper range, so that's a whole other ballgame in my opinion.

I think the same goes for Muhammed Wilkerson as well, who we passed on at the end of the first round. That guy had a lot of good traits and versatility at a position of need, which made it even stranger.

Other than the wishes of every patriot fan, there is no evidence at all that we had a chance at Watt. In hindsight, almost no team would have passed him up. And their fans are having the same meaningless discussions we're having.

We could have had Wilkerson.

Different relationship obviously but they did work out the issue with Wilfork back in April. What was the max they would have had to pay Kelly anyway, $1.5M?
We would have owed Kelly $2M as soon as he has active for Game One, plus game bonuses. The restructure had higher game bonuses with the same total IF KELLY STAYED HEALTHY. Kelly didn't want to take the risk.

Just BTW, if Kelly had started for us, perhaps it is he who would be on the IR-Return list, with us hopping that he returned at 100% from yet another injury.

Many HERE on this board wanted an incentive laden contract since Kelly was a serious injury risk. Looking back, we seem to know KNOW that Kelly would be immune to injury.

I just want to live my life in hindsight Sup..

It wasn't just about Kelly's health. You can figure that out with a simple read of the contract.

We chose the #17th pick. Watt went at #11.

While I've already stated that going back and attempting to look through hindsight's lens isn't a productive exercise, I don't see why it's so unreasonable to think that they couldn't have moved up 6 spots to do so.

As far as "almost no team passing him up," he had 10 teams right from the get go, so I highly disagree with that thought.

The restructure and final cut weren't JUST about Kelly's health.

But that was a big part.

If Kelly were active for every game, as he would have been if he were healthy, then the restructured contract would have been worth the same $2.5M as the original contract.

Personally, I think that it was made clear to Kelly that the team didn't think that we was worth the money. He might even have been told that he was likely to be a backup after a few games. In any case, the team would have cut him without the restructure. The team was able to delay the decision whether to keep Kelly for $2.5M. The team decided that Kelly simply wasn't worth the money.

And does the team now wish that they paid Kelly the money? I doubt it very much.

I tend to give BB more credit for self evaluation than you do

Only if he also made the highest PT incentive

Only if he also made the highest PT incentive

Around here, that seems to be all it takes. There could be an incentive requiring 2509 sacks in order to collect a bonus, and some people would count that as easy money on the contract.

He would never be healthy enough to not be old.

Yep..... much better to be young, like, say, Siliga. That youth is really paying dividends right now.

Why does everyone assume the Texans were open to trading pick 11?

Dennard was just downgraded to "out" for the game.

He's young, too, right?

damn that sucks about siliga...but that IR to return was called days ago

So, you think because Siliga hurt his foot, that Kelly can become young again? Are we talking some sort of cocoon situation?

You're deliberately being obtuse, and not genuinely flummoxed at my easily understood point, I hope.

You're the one that says BB is supposed to predict which young players will get hurt and keep old players forever, having that knowledge.

If we're going to deage players, I'd rather have seymour than Kelly anyway.

You're the one that's in denial that players ever age, you consistently ***** about every single one that is let go due to salary or to turnover the lineup before the budget gets tied in knots.
