Don't hate, but there's a little bit of Peyton colts defensive philosophy of playing with a prolific qb and protecting the secondary and run defense by ignoring the run, to an extent and going full bore after the QB.
We don't go with that philosophy, as the Hicks and Thornton signings indicate, but we are hoping that we can outscore teams enough they feel they have to pass and we pressure them into bad passes our veteran safeties can scoop up.
This allows us to not worry so much about CBs and to use LBs to rush the QB more often.
To their credit, The Colts that won a championship could stop the run through scheme when they guessed right, even with a marshmallow DL.
Our DL, with Easley and whoever, is not built to stop the run like a wilfork anchored line, and BB doesn't want to have to go with an obvious run line of Siliga and Branch, if he can find another penetrating, but stout DL to go along with [hopefully] Malcom Brown.
You still need stout players, but finding a double threat for almost nothing would increase options so much.
