Should we trade for LT Kolton Miller?

We ain't getting a Proven LT that easy save the keystrokes.
The WR high priest spitting some knowledge this morning.

doubtful they’d trade him. wouldn’t offer 4 or 38, id do both thirds.

The Raiders have plenty of cap space, they’ll probably come to an agreement.

This is sort of where I'm at with this. What is Miller looking for in a new contract that has him unable to reach an agreement with a Raiders team that has both the $ and the need? Dalton Wagner isn't exactly threatening him on the depth chart, I don't see the incentive to move him for the Raiders. With the LT market being what it is, if he walks next year Vegas would likely be looking at a 3rd round compensatory pick. So we're looking at a mid to high 3rd as the starting point in any trade discussions on top of whatever his contract demands are.

The Pats would have to be sure of their ability to extend him before pulling the trigger

Yeah, usually these contracts are worked out in advance of the actual trade.

But he is 29 so there is always the possibility the Raiders look at this season as a total rebuild and let him go. In which case I would certainly trade a middle round pick for him and extend him a reasonable 2-3 year contract. He's a stud. This would all be dependent on the Raiders. They have enough money to pay him.

Hard to imagine the Raiders would take anything less than a mid 3rd given his likely compensatory value but there is the whole 'a 4th this year is worth a 3rd next year' thing

I'd give up the later third for Miller. The Pats have a big enough need and have the money. Their line assuming health would instantly become one of the best in the NFL.

If they could pull this off pre-draft, they could use the 4th overall on the best player available instead of reaching for a tackle. But again, this is all Raiders dependent.

I would absolutely pull that trigger if I'm the Pats GM but if I'm the Raiders I doubt that's enough to get me to do the deal since I'm probably getting a 3rd back in a compensatory pick if he walks. The deal may need some further sweetening. That said, unlike a lot of what's been getting kicked around here lately this has some potential in the real world

exactly. they can afford to keep him.

its just like the alaric jackson scenario... guy won't hit free agency next year, unless something extraordinary happens

Yeah, but compensatory picks are arbitrary. Also if you trade for a third round pick now you get to spend the pick in this upcoming draft, if you wait you don't get the pick until next offseason. I don't think it happens but if I was the Pats I'd be on the phone.

The only real difference is age, Miller is 29 and on the back nine. Jackson is in his mid-20's or his prime. I wasn't high on Jackson so I'm glad they didn't reach for him. Miller is uber talented. Maybe Miller's age makes the Raiders flexible?

Yep, in the vein of the whole a 4th this year > a 3rd next year line of thought.
100% the Pats should be at least inquiring on Miller's potential availability, definitely worthy of kicking the tires

lot of the linemen are playing to their mid thirties... not a big deal like a 30 yr old running back would be

3rd rounder for a starting LT isn’t going to get it, at least imo.
I wouldn’t hate trading for him (as long as an extension or contract gets done) and grabbing Jeanty. That’s if Carter and Hunter are gone of course.
Love this thinking.

If they want to keep him, they absolutely will because as you point out they can afford to. But there was a report they haven't engaged so they might just not want to pay to keep him.

They seem to have solved RT in the draft last year with DJ Glaze. They're sitting at #6 this draft and who knows, maybe they really like one of the LTs and are leaning in that direction. If that's what they're thinking, it's possible they view Miller as someone they're better off trading for an extra pick to help somewhere else.

If that's the case we should definitely be interested, though that begs the question of why we don't just take the LT that Vegas would seemingly have earmarked for the #6 pick. Though it could maybe be a case where Sanders goes to NYG at #3 and then we feel we have t capitalize on Hunter/Carter at #4. Then let's say JAX goes Graham at #5 which leaves Campbell or whatever LT Vegas likes at #6 and they take him which frees them up to trade Miller to us for a 3rd or whatever.
