Should Denver's game winning TD have been counted ?

Doesn't matter, it never should have gone that far if the refs/rules weren't incompetent and bailed out the Steelers

Mike Pereira, the NFL's former Vice President of Officiating, was asked on Twitter whether Tebow's winning touchdown pass was an illegal formation.
"Watch on any Sunday. This is a good formation compared to many. They are not technical with this," Pereira responded, after seeing the picture accompanying this article.

Translation: "yes, that was an illegal formation, but that never gets called".

Which is exactly my problem with the current state of NFL officiating. Selective enforcement sucks. If you can't uniformly and consistently enforce a rule as is, then change it so that you can or scrap it entirely.

Has Mike Pereira EVER said someone got a call wrong? EVER? He always finds a way to say it was the right call even if everyone else can see it was plainly the wrong call.

PS - I thought our local media were the only ones to crap on the local teams after a great win!

Yeah, but only as a makeup call for the BS forward/pass fumble ruling that almost cost them the game.

Also didn't they line up in this formation on pretty much every first down?

So a Denver writer brought this to light? lol

He actually did this past weekend, absolutely ripped an official. I wish I remembered what it was about.

I dunno, there are unwritten rules in every sport, or perhaps the better way to explain them is to call them rules interpretations.

I've seen this formation dozens of times in the NFL without a penalty. Haven't all of you? You can stagger your front seven a bit, especially where the receivers are a yard behind the the furthest back guy on the line, as they are here. Don't they usually call the penalty only when the receiver is up on the line and covering up the TE?

Bad spot on the Steeler's last possession before halftime, I think. He was pretty rough on the crew.

If that's how they choose to interpret it, then the rule should probably be changed to reflect this reality. The rules should be enforced as they're written, always.

Had they been calling offensive holding in that game they'd still be playing... It was blatent, too. Almost comical on some of the replays...

You must have been so stunned you developed amnesia! Seriously, as soon as I see his face I change the channel. Maybe he's gotten better, but I just can't stand how he twists things to show the official was right.

Pereira is alright with me. Maybe the first time I really got to hear him speak was when he defended all the penaltys on Baltimore vs NE back in 2007.

Also this past weekend, I believe he disagreed with some roughing or other personal foul call.

As he should have been, the officiating was horrific. I can understand calling ticky tack penalties on James Harrison just because he is a meathead who has said repeatedly he won't change his style...it's like a reverse Jordan effect. But some of the other calls and non calls were just terrible.

PI is still the worst offender. I don't understand why teams don't chuck it down the sidelines more often...about 80% of the time you're going to draw a PI and get your first down at very least; most of the time you end up 1st and Goal.

Just more fuel to Pittsburgh's fire.

Honestly though, I feel this is nit-picking. I can accept criticism of calls or non-calls that directly influence the outcome of the play, but this NOT one of those cases.

Yes, all the time now that he is not with the league office. Prior to that no.

No doubt, illegal formation. Ten yard penalty and 2nd down, get them back together and keep that overtime going, the winner comes to Foxboro. It's only fair.
